True nostalgia dictates that Camaro emerges first. Never say never to a good name on a car, they will probably release new Firebirds. Question is will we want one. The poor man's vette was real, but what if congress, in effect, outlaws performance vehicles? A 6 cyl inline hybrid vette?!

GM is closing some truck production plants already. The Malibu's are too expensive especially the LTZ (might as well buy a CTS). They already have a car with the performance and mileage of the f-body. It's called the G8.

Wonderful news to people that have bought the last ones. I am so glad to hear this news. My 02 T/A will truly be the last. That was my reason for buying it.

No discernable difference between 98-02 so they're pretty much all the last ones.

There are NO plans from GM for a 10 bird. If I were you I would contact Michael Sabantini and ask how long he has been playing with photoshop. Do not get your info from .org sites

I love these cars but "I" am not going to consider them muscle cars That trend stoped when emissions regulations started to come into play. I classify them as (performance/sports cars) but thats just my opnion.

Whats the difference really? one is carborated and the other fuel injected (and crap load of computer and sensory). WHen the new Camaro comes out or the challenger, id say those are muscle cars as well. I had a dispute with a friend last week that said whatever V8 they put in the camaro is going to have Cylinder shutoff where it goes from 4 to 8. Now i understand his point but if you like the look of the car but dont like the cylinder changing thing then im sure they will have an aftermarket tune that will make it run on 8 all the time. I dont know if it exists but im sure someones come up with it or will. So at the moment you do that.....voila!! instant Muscle car! that of course depends on a persons opinion of what a muscle car is.

Sorry for the long post.....just thought it was an interesting topic.
As for a new bird, someone put it perfectly. It's bittersweet. I want it back, but i don't wanna crappy rebadged camaro and the 02's ended it perfectly for me. I believe the trans ams were muscle cars, almost multiplatformed. Muscle/pony/sports cars. i don't care what you call it, its bad ass. to me, thats all that matters. but with cafe coming soon they're all in danger, and you won't wanna shut off the cylinder deactivation just to call it muscle, gas is rising too much. and the manuals aren't getting the cylinder shut off, they're getting the great "skip-shift" like that found in the 98-02's(not sure if the early 4th gens had it too). but if you have an m6, you all know how to bypass that if wanted, just put it to the floor

As much as I would like the bird to return... I think it to be unlikely. I also wouldn't want it to be a rebadged retro Camaro either.

Given the high price of ga$.... I think even the new Camaro will be short lived.

The future looks bleak for preformance cars... espically for the cheaper ones.

The vette may surrvive... I doubt the rest will.

Not heavy enough to be a 'muscle car.'

I call our cars 'pony cars.'

jkicak is right on. As good looking as the new Challenger is the SRT8 is rated at 425 hp, but weighs over 4000 lbs (70-74 weighed 3390) the 0-60 time is in the nieghbor hood of 5.1 the LS1 T/As and Camaros can do it in 5.3 with an hp rating of 320. So 95 more horses = .2 faster 0-60 WTF? The 2010 Camaro is rated between 400-422 hp with an expected price tag of about $28k, roughly the cost of a Challenger RT not SRT thats $41k the Challenger is just as its name implies a "challenger" all show no go. The new Camaro wont look as good but it'll suck the headlights right out of the Challenger SRT and I wont even glorify the Mustang by going into it's shitty numbers.

Actually, now that i think of it i agree. sports cars to me are the corvette/viper style. high performance and pricey. Muscle to me's heavier/3700-4000 but still got pick up. Pony's the perfect catagory. right where it started, lighter than muscle, cheaper than sports, but rivaling performance. and word is the 2010 mustangs getting a 6.2 liter engine with stats rivaling the camaro, so those 2 are gonna be goin at it

Yeah, just that no one will be able to afford th gas to drive them lol!

What category should we use for the new Challenger at 4200lbs?

well its more modern muscle, don't know what'd be the best catagory but on a lighter note they just tested the production 6 and 8 cylinder challenger models. 0-60? for srt8 manual, 5.5. not too bad, but whats horribles the 6's 0-60 a staggering 8.1 seconds. the civic si's quicker with a 7.2. thats a shame, even for the base.

Yeah that really sucks when the SRT-8 with over 100 more hp can't even beat the performance numbers of a 10 year old LS1 and for way more money lol!
