Newbie 1994 Firebird build on YOUTUBE

I actually started off with a crappy black running 1994 Camaro I bought on CL for 650 bucks.

A week later I bought another 1996 roller Camaro for 500 bucks.

My original plan was to do a basic V6 motor swap. After going online to forums I was motivated to do a V8 swap. I priced around and did not like the price so I decided to sell both cars.

Until I saw a CL ad that had a 1994 Firebird Formula for sale for 1000 bucks. The motor was a LT1 and it was said to have been blown. I offered to trade my running camaro for his non running firebird. We agreed on a straight trade. NOT EVEN 3 days later I found out it was the starter and head gasket. I put a starter in it and it ran smooth.

So basically I paid 650 for a running Firebird Formula that needs about 500 bucks worth of work. FTW

Another good thing about this build is that my mechanic wants my camaro roller and is willing to repair my Firebird for it. FTW

Sorry for the life story, but I just wanted to explain my journey.

here are my beginning videos (in order) of my build.

The white smoke is definitely coolant related. Either head gaskets or cracked heads. I noticed it leaks coolant. Is is coming from the radiator for sure? If it is, you absolutely must flush the system! You don't really want anything that color leaking from your car.

I recall when the starter went on my '93 Formula it sounded like all hell had broke loose under the car.

The starter itself was a lightweight unit and I remember we replaced it with a standard unit that weighed a little more but was quite a bit less cash.

Have fun with your new ride --

While it's out do you a huge favor and get a bottle of simple green, use a 50-50 mix with water and start cleaning that engine bay while it's out of the way. You can also use it on the engine as a degreaser and rinse with low water pressure.

What exactly are your plans for this car? Street car? Race car? Knowing what you want to do with the car will help in your selection of modifications, as anyone on this site will tell you. It's easy to just throw a bunch of money at a car, and buy a shitload of mod parts, but without a real plan you just wind up pissing your money away. Talk to people who know what they are talking about when it comes to these cars. Don't just take the advice of every idiot who posts comments on Youtube. There are a lot of ways to go with it, so make sure to bounce ideas off of guys on here. Good luck with the project, and keep us posted!

I want a 12 second track car/ daily driver/ street monster. I want to be able to do a 50 mph roll and take off leaving skid marks and fishtailing. I want it to be fast and yet daily driveable with A/C.

Just a little update vid to show you all my progress. I will continue on to part 2 today so stay tuned and expect a vid today also. Yes I am the only one taking this motor apart so it is actually MY BUILD lol. Do me a favor and try to post the comments that you want to put on this forum to the actual video though if you all don't mind, and I have a link in the video for those who want to follow my progress and support what I am doing. Thanks for all the support.
