Newb with a problem...
So i just bought a Trans-Am Saturday and everything seems good with it. 2000 T/A, 6spd, 52000 miles, stock aside from a flowmaster welded in. Well today was the first day i got to "play" with it and i think something may be wrong with my rear...
At a stop i drop the clutch at about 2.5g and i take off without a problem but i hear a loud "thump" when i drop the clutch.
I had the t-tops off and in the slots when i did it and thought maybe it was them moving around or something, but i'm a paranoid person and am worried.
Tires: Nitto 275/40/18 on 06 vette rims.
What you guys think? Is my rear goin out or is this common?

check to see if maybe the lower control arms or panhard rod have been replaced with aftermarket stuff. If your bolts are not trq. to specs. you can get a clunk when you take off or shifting gears.

Do you hear a humming noise coming from the rear??
At WOT, I get a thump from the center of the vehicle when I shift gears along with a chirp of the tires. I was told that it was a tranny mount.

Sounds like it to me. I had it break in my 96. I don't think it was too expensive if you have someone do it. When mine broke you could hear a nice thump in the floor.

I found that when the t-tops are in their slots, they are pretty well supported when you are braking, and momentum is pushing them forward. But, when you are accelerating, the front one will tilt back in its slot and contact the other. I keep a bath towel in the rear, so when the t-tops are off and in their slots, I fold the towel and slide it between the tops.
This took care of my "clunk" upon acceleration.
