New tires, girdle, going to the dragstrip tonight.
So here are a couple pictures of the new TA girdle, a burnout to help get that out of my system, and the new tires installed: I have more confidence with my differential now with the axle tubes welded and the girdle installed. I have no noise out of my diff yet, 71,500 miles on it.
Hope to run some 12s tonight, but I really need 60 degree weather I think. Supposed to be about 77 degrees around 6:00 tonight at ORP. Not gonna do any burnouts with my new tires, going to try for a 2.0 60 ft. If I can get some 109+ trap speeds, I should get my 12.x. Last October I ran 109.x all night and got a 12.89, the other runs were 13.0-13.3.

Well, no 12s tonight, going to try again in October. My best 60 ft was a poor 2.130, that run ended up being a 13.238 @ 107.67. I guess I should have put the tires on sooner so I can learn how to launch with these. These are the new Goodyear F1 ultra high performance all season tires, my last set were Goodyear F1 GS D3. I work at Goodyear. I think my GS D3 tires launched better, but I'll know when I get back to the track in a few weeks.
Numba1, I got my girdle out of Illinois, some racing shop. I googled TA girdles, this is how I found them, I paid $170 including shipping. I don't have the reciept handy, so if you really want to know let me know and I will get back to you. I have Hooker LTs, ORY, a lid.
Always funny to see the ricers out at the dragstrip, running 15-17s. I just don't get it, why bother running that with a FWD car? My first run of the night was against what looked to me like a race car, some kind of 1970 Capri, had a roll cage, no interior, drag radials, he ran a 15.64 @ 89.68. Another run I ran an LS1 Camaro, he had drag radials and that got him a 1.755 60 ft, 12.403 but only 108.45. So, when I figure out my launch and run my 109+ traps again, I should see my 12s this October. My second run was my best that I quoted above, that race was against a '06 I think MT 'Vette, I thought I was going to beat him but no, his 12.769 @ 113.78 got me at the big end, I was .2 better at the light and I had a .1 better 60 ft, he caught me somewhere just past the 1/8 and the slip says he beat me across by .2682. Still, a lot of fun as everybody knows.

^^^With the Hookers and ORY, my exhaust actually gained ground clearance. I did have to crimp the ORY a bit for the cross member, but still a much better, bigger pipe than factory. And you're gonna love the sound!

You will regret losing that nice TA, especially with your color. I say, trade in only the Taurus. You don't want to be one of those people 5 or 10 years from now who say, "If only I had kept that Trans Am...."

A girdle is the aluminum cover you see on my differential in the above pictures. The cover itself adds structural stiffness to the differential housing, and the two lock bolts you see coming out of the cover are pre-load studs, they add some more stiffness to the carrier inside the housing of the differential, to make it all stronger. Our cars have very small ring gears, not much more than stock HP/torque and they won't handle the power. Some can't handle even stock power.
