Navy Blue Metallic- 2001 WS6 Trans Am
Need some suggestions on a Cam
Hi,
I'm looking to install a cam soon. 2001 WS6 automatic transmission. Looking for something good to go with just a summer driven car. I baby the car, so I won't be racing or beating on it.
I have a few mods, air lid, Kooks Long Tube Headers, Borla Exhaust, Offroad Y-pipe, MSD LS1 Superconductor 8.5mm wires, NGK Copper Spark plugs.
Looking for some suggestions on a good cam, thanks

Are you looking for a mild cam or something a bit more radical?
if you want something bigger a stall converter is highly recommended if you want fairly decent street manners

I'm looking for something mild. If possible, I'm looking to avoid a torque converter. But I haven't ruled it out. I really like the MS4 cam.
Remember, I have a stock rear end, so I'm not looking for anything over powering.

MS3/4 cams and you'll be not only needing a new stall but look forward to replacing valve springs every 25-30k miles.
Those cams are not mild.
What you're looking for would be a 224 or 228 cam. Just enough to feel a bump in HP but not enough that you'll break the rear.

Agreed, those are both very proven cams.
If you're really having a tough time I would also suggest getting in touch with someone who could spec one out close to what you're looking for.

I talked with Martin several times from Tick Performance before I settle on mine.

I agree with Scott. Something in the 224 to 228 would be the way to go if you don't want to spend a lot of money having to beef-up everything else in the valve train.
