    1998 Firebird Formula

Need a little advice on a exhaust.

On my 98 Firebird Formula i have a borla cat-back system exhaust. But i just got a 99 T/A Vert and i am going to put a new exhaust on it but not a borla, too expensive. I was thinking about going with a SLP Loudmouth 2 exhaust but just wanted to see what you guys thought about it or if you think something is better.

The loudmouth may sound good on a stock car but if you plan on adding headers in the future I would personally not get that catback. It is too loud and raspy for my ear after the header install.

Everyone will tell you a different catback to buy and it all depends on what your plans are for the car and what kind of sound you want.. maybe a price range too !

I really like my magnaflow system on my car. Surprisingly, it is only loud when I get on it real hard. Cruising at normal speed has a real nice mellow tone..not too annoying. I previously had a flowmaster system on a 2nd gen (~1994). I liked that system too, but I think it was a bit noisier. It was a traditional SBC in the old 2nd gen..not a LS1 like I have with the magnaflow.

heres my 2 cents on exhaust...bought my car with flowmaster on it already, hated it. got a slp y-pipe, better. put on a exhaust cut-out, too much interior noise/rattling, gets really dity under car, but really loud . After the cut-out experience, i got a LM1, and along with the y-pipe its a full slp catback. just as loud as cutout's, in my opinion, but without the interior noise since exhaust is coming out the tailpipes, its not that raspy, if at all. cold start its pretty loud at idle, but after the car warms up it sounds like stock, until u press on the gas pretty much...

Most people will tell you to avoid any SLP exhaust product. Magnaflow is the favorite exhaust most people recommend.

    The cheaper of the two.

If you want loud....Magnaflow will be too quiet for you until you add headers.

so then if Magnaflow is to quiet then whats really loud with just stock and basic bolt on's. Dont think i'll ever do headers.

+1 cutout is definitly the loudest for the money...around $50 for the cutout, and around $50 for a muffler shop to install it, unless theyre trying to rip you off maybe $100, but even then, $150 is dirt cheap for the gain imo the interior noise for me was f'n annoying! all the little plastic pieces in the car rattling around...i even got a "turn down" pipe for the cutout, it helped a little bit, but it still rattled...thats why i just went with the LM1 after the cut-out cause i still wanted LOUD, just without the interior noise, since the exhaust is coming out the tailpipes with the LM1 and not dumping out right under the rear passenger seat like the cutout.

I would consider Long tube headers. They really open these cars up as far as sound and performance goes. If you do not plan to I would get the loudmouth one. On stock manifolds nothing sounds meaner imo. If you change your mind about getting headers the loudmouth 2 may be a better choice (less rasp) It all depends on what sound your looking for. Magnaflow sounds great but is very tame, hooker is a bit louder and sounds more aggressive.

Really depends on if your going to do long tubesw/ a ory or catted ypipe or keep the stock manifolds and cats. I would say LM2 if your keeping the stock exhaust since the Magnaflow is quite, even with lt's and a catted ypipe it's too quiet for me but with lt's and a ory the magnaflow is a good setup.
I have the SLP Powerflo which has a LM2 and 2 powerflo mufflers since I went with Lt's and a ory I only wanted it loud at wot or above 3500rpm sounds great.
I don't like alot of SLP's stuff but I like my exhaust as much as any other I have heard and no problem with fit or finish.
