Routine maintenance and quality parts go a long way towards making our cars last. Granted, you never know what might go bad or when, but that applies to all cars. I believe this same question has been previously posted and the answer was essentially -- go ahead and mod it. Even worse case scenario, you can rebuild or replace engines, transmission and rears.

What sort of mods are you planning?

Yeah thats just barely broken in for the LS1 IMHO. Assuming it has been properly maintained.

Especially if you just intend on doing basic bolt ons, go for it!

Now NOS or a Forced Induction is a little more risk. These engines are tough though!

well im thinking cam plus all the supporting mods, forced induction and nos i know its a risk even with a new engine, but i want all bolt ons, right now all i have is longtube headers, ory, and magnaflows. I know about cars, but nothign about performance.

How much power and what ET are you shooting for? I recommend doing the heads or at least head work while you are doing the cam because I like doing lifters when I do a cam. Its not a must do, but it gives me peace of mind. Everyone is a little different tho. My set up screams up top with a little torque lost down low (but not horrible) I have 1000 more usable rpms and usually shift at 6,600 rpms. You give LS1.com the info and LS1.com will give you results (Nobody steal that quote, thinking about patenting it )

Mine has 186,000 on it and had 177,000 when i bought it for 3,000. Im just doing suspension and other external/supporting mods so when this engine goes i can swap it with something else. I didnt mind buying the car with so many miles because it wont hurt my feelings to put a nice 408 in it.

You need some way to vent the engine -- rather than remove it, employing a separator or catch can to keep oil from entering the intake is the best thing to do.

Completely up to you -- realistically, you get about a 10 h.p. boost from most all aftermarket lids and such. I went the stealth route and popped on an SLP lid with the stock "Ram Air" decal covering the SLP logo.

I say its not worth it unless you plan on making it a 1/4 car and doing a complete rebuild.

Thats a perfect time to start modding. Those mods if done properly should'nt make your engine blow, in fact a new valve train would help reliability. New oil pump and timing chain never hurts.
