+1 for having a back seater try to locate the noise.

You could jack it up and check it out, loose bolts, try spinning the wheels, etc.
ditto i had the exact same problem...gm mechanic messed with suspension and differential and it turned out to be axle bearings...dont jump into the idea of a whole new rear

I have a similar problem with my 2001 z28 m6. It seem like everytime im at a red light and I try and get a good jump right as you feel the torque hit the rear wheels it'll make this rattleing noise, from the sounds of it, it definitely sounds like some type of slippage. Something that also tripped me out is that recently we had a little rain and everytime the car would struggle to gain traction it would make this sound, and with a manual tranny this was basically at every red light, so what do you guys think the car runs very well except for this "rattleing" sound.

I had a problem with my WS6 where when I drove I heard clunking noises. I took it to Goodyear and they said that my whole rear end was out, and I should not drive it. They even recommended getting it towed. Wanted to charge me $1,200 to fix it. I took it to my friend's father, who is a mechanic, and he said that he was just a bearing that went bad. Does anybody else hate going to Goodyear or any other places like that?
