I dnt floor it at all during the week because I want one tank to last me the whole work week but I only get 180 miles per tank..spark plug came out black when I replaced them but didn't smell like gas..is there an easy way to find out if my engine has internal mods?

look at the drivers cylinder head. What 3 digit number you see? I can at least tell you if you have stock heads for a 98.

Regarding the internals = no, not without pulling the motor apart. The LS6 intake is definitely not stock.

also.....98's wee the only year with perimeter bolt valve covers. That doesn't prove they're stock though....my buddy's 98 vette has worked perimeter bolt heads on it.

Mine is the same way. Previous owner was unsure of what had been done to it. Has a little lope like it my have a small cam. I've put headers on. Average about 10-11 running around town. But took a trip on 2 lane highway and averaged above 20.

This is really starting to sound like a car that just needs to find a good tuner and a chassis dyno so someone can actually see what's going on and log the car, give it a proper tune or at least make sure everything is on the up and up, and then see how it does.

I'd also suggest a new set of 02's if they have some age or mileage on them. Generally they should be changed every 50-60k miles anyway, and probably a good idea to toss in a brand new set before heading off to get a good chassis dyno tune.

that's the power steering bracket number....the head number will be on the top edge in a corner. I forget front or back of the head. Do you have perimeter bolts around your valve covers? If so you're looking for "806" if not it could be several different casting numbers.....241,243,317,799, ect ect

nope still not it and if you have center bolt valve covers you definitely have aftermarket heads.

shouldn't have to do all that just to read the head casting number......anyhow.....it doesn't really matter. If you have center bolt covers I can tell you 100% that you have aftermarket heads on the car. What about the front face of the head on the passenger side? Any numbers or etchings on the front of the head? Next up is the intake. Should be able to see a part number cast into it on the drivers side. It'll be a 1255xxxx number or something similar to that.

On the passenger side looks like they scratch out the serial number or put some kind of bond on it for some reason

Do you see the "243" number in the casting of the head (not the engraved numbers) in the middle of the pic? That is the number we are referring too. Now if there is no number look for other markings like "Trickflow" or "Patriot" on the side of the heads. Not sure how the aftermarket marks theirs.

pretty sure AFR engraves the front of the head my PRC heads are stock castings so they have the casting numbers. Some of the older patriots I believe ground off the stock numbers but engraved them with their numbers. Not sure on trickflows.
