Well if we were one of the few that had an 02 with an LS6 block would it be possible to just bore it to an LS6 with 405 horses? Like all of you i was looking at some naturally aspirated simple upgrades(don't wanna hassle with super/turbo) and was just gonna swap LS1 to LS6 but wanted to know the most reliable and easiest way. Any other input?

The only real differences between an LS1 and a LS6 are the heads, cam, and intake (if you have an 01 or 02 f Body then you have the same intake).

This is true but it is not the main reason for the difference in power.

ls6 is hardly a swap... since even some 01+ cars came with the ls6 block which was only marginally differant than the ls1... and u get the same thing with a head/cam swap (but personally, if i was going to go through that trouble id swap ported ls6 heads and a big aftermarket cam, but then is it a modded ls1 or an ls6? )

the ls2 will bolt right in, there is a write up on tech i believe. you need a couple components off the ls1 to get the computer to fire the new motor, but its much less of a headache than you would imagine.

It would be the same as putting the LS1 in the LT1 car.
Quite the pain after all is said and done.

    Computer, tranny, motor to start.

so your probably better and cheaper to just do the lt1 up than go through all that.

When I did this engine swap, LS1 to LS6, Crateenginedepot was selling that "service engine" for $2999.99. I couldn't believe that it had all the "goodies" of the real LS6 i.e. sodium filled valves, hollow valves, the real LS6 heads and so on. I mean how could they sell one for over 4 grand, and this one for under 3K? Well...needless to say, it is a REAL LS6 motor with all the bells and whistles and is rated at 405hp! Mine is modded to about 500 at the crank before I dropped it in, I figured that it was the best time to install the cam, double roller, HD springs, pushrods, LT headers etc...with the tune, she gets it.

Oh...about that differance in price between the two motors....I could tell you....
But then I'd have to kill you.....

This is the route I what to take. I would love to keep mine a DD and not have to be worried about someone not wanting to work on it because too much bolt ons and internals done to it. This way I can drive it right up to the dealer if I want to and not worry. Since mine is currently stock, I plan to do the suspension and intake/exhaust route.....but when my car is ready, then she will get an LS-7.....if it will fit???

The LS7 is a VERY expensive swap. Not worth it in my opinion.

If you are talking about the price of the motor itself, I have a buddy that owns a junk yard. He has a totaled Z06 that he said I could have for about $6k, has 32k miles on it. The car turns over and runs, but its beyond totalled. Looks like it flipped during the accident.

What else would I need that would be a major investment?

Cmon, bragging rights would be worth it....right? heeh

Your tranny won't hold for that long. Clutch. Tires. Want to stiffen the chassis for the extra power. Computer, sensor relocations, tune, etc...

Bragging rights are cool enough, but I would rather go faster for cheaper.
Although that sounds like a good deal....I was thinking if you had to drop the $14K on the crate motor.

Yep, $14k would be to much for me. The Vette still has the tranny in it with all the computer stuff. I am assuming the computer stuff still works, but I wont know on the tranny until we get it out of the car. Worst case senerio, I should be able to make some money off the engine if I decide not to put it in my car.

I don't believe the tranny would fit your car.
