I did mine alone and the scariest part was lifting the front end up high as hell. You also lose ~20lbs over the stock heavy ass manifolds.

I did long tubes, ory, lm1 and a mail order tune from frost and it was a new car to me. I have no idea how much hp I gained b/c I never ran it on a dyno

$500 for a long tube install is too much to pay. Its not a bad DIY task.

Here is a good write up on how to DIY:

    It has a big wing!

Local shop around here wants $300 for the install and would have it done by the end of the day... Cool thing is also that, the exhaust shop guy is not only good but he is an F-body guy to boot! (spiced up LT1 Z28 and newly aquired 2010 SS)

Even with that,I would much rather do it myself... I hate people poking around my cars and not knowing what they did!

Now if I could just get the headers! hmmmmmmmm

I would have done it myself but it was the last installed Bolton before I needed a tune and I can't take up room at my little 2 bay bodyshop to work on my car all the time and I use a hydralic Jack and stands when painting and I'm a little old and beaten to be laying in my back under stands trying to do it with the few sockets I have. My focus is on full paint jobs, minor bodywork, bolt on body part replacement, and cosmetic repair I don't do big hits. They take too much time INS companies are a pain and I don't make as much for the time spend. I paid them $400 and made $700 that day so I call it a far trade. In my teens and early 20's I did motor swaps and tons of work on 5.0's since that is what was in but know Ill do throttle bodies, cai's, brakes, and minor fast thing but headers, stalls, and cams I leave to my buddy at the Vette performance shop.

my pricing is 350 and they will install my headers and change my spark plugs while they are at it... plus they have to cut the ORY to fit the new headers since the ORY is from the manifold back. If i do the job myself its 75 dollars for them to just adjust the ORY but i would have to do the header install and spark plugs

I installed SLP headers on my 93 T/A, it's not the easiest job in world....but well worth it once you drive your car.

I was wondering how the ls1 f-body install compares to a ls2 gto. I did headers myself on my 05 gto I had. Did it with just ramps, headers were fed in from above and the steering shaft went through the headers and had to be disconnected. With my T/A all I've done is a lid and catback. I did the sparkplugs and realize the engine is further into the firewall than the gto. So the Q's are:
Are ramps enough to do the job?
Can the headers be fed from above?
Does the steering shaft have to be disconnected?

    Thanks,
    Dave

    1) close but i would say no
    2) bottom is the only way
    3) depends on the header

I had my car about 19 inches off the ground to do my headers it was barely high enough, but it worked. Some headers might be different, but I installed Kooks 1 7/8" . The passenger side was easy, drivers side is supposed to fit up in there better if you can point the collector straight down start installing it up and then rotate it into position. I didn't have the car high enough to do all that, so I had to take the motor mount out to slide it up there.

if you have the time on a weekend do it yourself, save the money it can be a pain but its worth it. u always run into some sort of trouble but u get around it. i have a 99 formula n i just screwed some 2x6's together to put on the jack to get my car high enough to put the headers in from underneath n it worked out pretty well

pacesetters are a good bang for your buck header. You have an 02 so no need for EGR. no need for AIR provisions unless you still have the air pump
