    Kind of strange but..

My buddy has a 2000 trans am with magnaflow, high flow cats, pacesetter headers, and lid. I have a 98 ws6 with magnaflow, highflow cats, and lid. Our cars sound exactly the same. Im kind of dissapointed that the lts dont make it sound meaner. If I listen very carefully I can hear alittle more of a growl but none of our friends can even notice it. Is this usually the case with these cars since the stock headers are not "that" bad??

I think it has more to do with the cats and the Magnaflow. Both are very well known to change/dampen/muffle the exhaust tones VERY well. With an ORY or a different catback, you probably notice more of difference between headers and manifolds.

I guess you guys have emissions checks which is why you have cats but like Cutlass above me said, the cats have a lot to do with it.

cars from the factory come with exhaust manifolds not headers, and compared to long tube headers they restrict the exhaust flow quite a bit

As far as exhaust goes... to each his/her own. Personally, I really like the mellowness of the Magnaflow system at idle and cruise and how it opens up under acceleration. I have yet to run it on the road since the LT and catted Y install, but in the garage it certainly has a bit more bark than just the catback had.

I have been told that cats act as resonators.

its because of the cats, headers have nothing to do with it,

I mean I like how it sounds but I just thought it would be alot louder with long tubes. Either way it sounds ten times better than our other buddys that has slp. Oh man I hate that sound haha

it's the cats. My car sounded good with just the flowmaster I wlded into the factory location back when the car was stock. Soon as I got the lt's and ory it got loud and raspy. I hardly drove it anywhere till I got my new catback. I got the SLP PowerFlo since it had the sound I wanted. Magnaflow has a good kit but there were to many people I knew with them and I got the SLP Kit when it 1st came out. It sounds closer to a magnaflow it's deep and not too loud at idle and cruising and loud at WOT but not really raspy thanks to the 3 muffler setup.
