    Insurance claim to paint?

Hey, Ive read on here a few times of people claiming to their insurance and getting new paint out of it. I have full coverage with a $1000 deductible, and I was wondering how exactly they did that? Because it seems like such a hassle and if I tried it I'd get laughed at. I've been with them for over a year now without any claims.. What's the catch?

its like saving a dime to pay a dollar later, they're going to skyrocket your monthly billl, pay to paint it yourself.

Well Im on the verge of switching to Hagerty, regardless. And so Ive paid in almost $4000 over the course of 15 months and not had it go to use once.

So I feel like if it worked out, Id be using the money I paid in anyway, and then get it all covered and protected nicely with hagerty.

Your next company will see that you had a recent claim and will still jack your premiums up anyway, so it won't matter that you are about switch or not.

But if it's less than what I put into the pool as a whole, would it really jack my rate up? They are already screwing me hardcore. $245 a month, 0 accidents 0 tickets..

So far Ive yet to hear one real answer. I've got yours, which is a metaphor for saving money. And, another, that is an assumption of how my insurance rates would react, despite knowing what Ive paid in, or actually having experience in this situation.

So, thank you for attacking me. When all Im doing is clarifying several points Im unsure of. Things that could very well affect the outcome.

I'm not assuming, this is how the insurance company's do things. They have a system set up not unlike the credit rating system that will tell them what and when your last claim was and for how much. Then they will base there premium accordingly. They don't care how much you've put in their "pool", that is how they make money.

That's what I needed to know. Thank you. Sorry if my comment came off a bit brash.

Nah, I know it gets aggravating paying in a ton of money for what seems like nothing. I've done it for a lot of years.

Sheesh I know.. Hagerty has quoted me at $91 a month for full coverage with a $0 deductible, and $20k agreed value. Time to jump ship.

Unless you have accident damage, or some other covered loss, it is called insurance fraud. Be happy to represent you if I was licensed in your state...

One thing to think about -- if you have multiple vehicles it is best to stack your coverages through one insurer. This is particularly true as to your uninsured and underinsured coverages that are there for your protection.

I highly suggest you do! You decide how much your car is worth to you. and that's what gets paid out if for some reason your baby gets totalled.

But Hagerty does not cover the other driver if you hit them does it?

    Only your car.

Yeah I would do some more research into Hagerty...now think about it...does it make since they are $100's lower than any other insurance company?

No...they must only insure the car.
