Phantom Black Metallic- 2004 GTO M6
Try cleaning the MAF first. It's the sensor that connects to the airbox.

It's the part between your air lid and your throttle body.
You'll want to get some cleaner and spray it down really well. Let it air dry. Don't touch the little wires inside. Just spray them.

Black- 99 WS.6 - Modified
No, it isn't the coolant. As mentioned, try cleaning the MAF sensor with some CRC cleaner - available at most auto stores. You could also check the fuel pressure. Since the car dies if you don't keep pressing on the gas, have someone read the pressure at the fuel rails - there is a valve on the rail where you can use a fuel pressure guage. You should see around 58 psi. Take a reading with just turning the key on but not starting the car, and then another reading while the car is running.
Is the SES light on? If so, you could get the codes read to help narrow down your problem.

^^ What Knight said.
Also, has your Service Engine Soon (SES) light been on?
After checking the fuel pressure, I would consider the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve on the side of the throttle body, or simply a dirty throttle body as the next possible culprit. Do you run an oiled cotton gauze air filter, such as a K&N?'
FWIW, the fuel filter is located under the car, in front of the left rear wheel area. You will need a set of line wrenches and a release tool to change it. Line wrenches are not required, but you are far less likely to round off the fittings with them.

Midnight Blue Metallic- 2001 Trans Am WS6
it's called a fail safe, there can be numerous of things wrong. try putting a scan tool on it and see if it is throwing any codes. it happened to me when a valve spring broke.
