    I'm an Idiot

    I bought a CAGS skip shift eliminator for my T-56, I plugged it in and it didn't work. I was "Pissed" to say the least. I jacked the T/A up and checked it again, low and behold, I plugged it in to the "reverse lock-out" solenoid by mistake. Long story short, when it's plugged into the right location, it works fine....... I guess I need to have a few less "MGDs" when I crawl under that thing.

    It happens, just keep the battery cables away from nipples rings....OUCH!!

    Yeah.....it still works.....Thats the first thing I checked.......Got lucky on that one

    The instruction I got with my CAGS skip shift eliminator said you HAD to be drinking MGD's or it WOULDN'T work! lol!

    AKA, I'll bet you're LOVING rowing through the gears now!

    It stops the manual transmission cars from shifting 1st-4th gear

    True, but could we be more precise for those that might not know? GM, in an effort to meet the Federal Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) numbers installed a solenoid in the 6 speed transmission which, under certain condition, locks out 2nd and 3rd gear and FORCES you to shift from 1st to 4th gear. 4th gear is a 1 to 1 ratio with the engine, so a lower rpm equal lower fuel consumption and better MPG numbers. It got the LS1 to pass the Federal regulation, but is a PITA to drive and damn-near dangerous in some situation. A CAGS (or shift skip) Eliminator send voltage to the solenoid and "trick" it into not engaging, thereby allowing you to shift into 2 and/or 3rd.

    1stbird, perfect explanation. It is a part of all T56 trannies, even the Vipers have a 1 to 4 lock out.
