I.... Dont know how this works.

Okay I was online and this guy with a 99 v6 dropped an ls1 into his car and made it work.

He modified his throttle body to work since 99-02 fbody's use electronic throttle.

I have a 99 v6 and well, I wanted to do this but I was told that it really cant be done and its really difficult. (concerning the throttle body)

I love my car, in the best of shape, my daily driver to school and work.

I dont understand the process of how it was done!

What do yall think of this?

Really this guy bough a ls1 engine with the a4 tranny. He bought a wrecked car so he had EVRRYTHING, suspension, wiring, fuel line swap, and computer all for $2500 with like 64,000 miles. Damm good deal... If you have another body that is.

He modified the throttle body to make it a drive by wire. They come cable driven.

Ls1 swaps happen all the time with many pleased customers.

So it DOES go from electronic to throttle!

See I wasnt sure if it was a modify from cable to the original electronic or the other way.

I mean really id love to do this if I ever find a wreck ls1 vehicle.

V6 fbody's got an electronic throttle in 99-02.

I am not sure about the gto's.. I think the ls1 gto's a cable driven, pretty sure. Im not sure about the ls2 gto's though.

    99-02 (only) 3800 f-bodies are ALL drive by wire 85mm inlet TB's..

ALL 4th gen. V8 f-bodies are cable driven TB's from the factory.

Pre 1999 v6 f-bodies are ALL cable driven TB's as well.

The only advantange one might see from adapting a drive by wire 3800 TB to their LS1 would likely be because the drive by wire TB uses the same servo to drive the ventury as the cuise control.

WHere as LS1 f-body cruise control is bunch of crap cluttering an already cramped engine bay.

Other than that there would be no advantage to adding a v6 electronic TB to the LS1 as the v6 TB is 85mm @ the inlet only, from there it's sustantially smaller on the outlet side behind the ventury than the factory LS1 intake inlet.

If you want an LS1 f-body drive by wire setup you'd need to look at Corvette C5 (iirc) and it's PCM for it to work.

Well there are other v8 drive by wire setups from GM, I still would not see the real advantage other than stated of changing over for the cuise controler.

^^^ no I dont want the throttle only, I want a v8 powered engine!

I was just seeing how to modify the car for the ls1 engine from its original v6 electronic tb into the ls1 v8 cable driven.

    I see what you're sayin'.

I would just get an electronic TB for the V8 and it's PCM when the time comes.

The LS1 F-body PCM likely does'nt contain the equired electronics for a drive by wire TB.

You can't use the v6 PCM at all for an LS1.

^^ yeah I have been reasearching for awhile, I was hoping to find a wrecked ls1 camaro or trans am and buy the whole thing.
Drop the engine, along with the tranny, along with the front suspension and have all fuel lines, harness and pcm.

I was just curious about the switch from elec. TB and cable TB. i did not know they sell electronic TB for ls1's..

Can't say whether they sell them, but I'm sure someone does.

I know Vette had them can't say if they still do or what years as I'm not a Vette guy.

Not that I don't like them, just not overly knowledgable about them.
