Is High Mileage a big deal with these cars (98-2002 WS6's)

Back in the day, I would never touch a car if it had 90,000 miles on it. I'm seeing a lot of 1998-2002 T/A WS6's with anywhere from 90K-130K on them. Should such high mileage be a concern if everything else seems OK? How many miles do you have on yours? Could these cars be made better than 70's and 80's cars that I don't need to worry as much about mileage?

    Thanks

well.....a bigger factor would be how it was maintained during those miles. The LSx motors in general are pretty durable motors. I have 97k on mine and still beat the piss out of it everytime I'm in it. Still runs strong. They definitely are much better made than the older cars so you can't really compare the 2.

The biggest thing would be wear and tear on the interior, but mechanically as long as it has been properly taken care of they will last for a long time.

    98 T/A w/a little mods...

Carl we have some members on here that have over 200k miles and the cross hatching on the cylinders is still good.

These cars are light years better then those made in the 70-80's

I got mine @ 108k miles and have just turn over 148k and it runs strong as hell.

Now you will have some issues like crack door panels & dash pad, passenger window failures, weak rear ends but these are know issues and many are easy fixes that others like me have made threads on how to fix them yourself.

Bottom line is you'll never fine a perfect used vehicle. Go into the deal with knowledge from research and make an informed decision.

I bought mine for 6 grand with 120,000 miles on her in Sept 2010.

Put another 4 into her in maintanance and upgrades.

She has done about 60-70 dragstrip passes and gets faster everytime out.

    Current mileage 126,000.

Take it for a test spin and drive the hell out of it that will tell you everything.

I got mine at 115000 miles with basic bolt ons and some work needed. I fixed about 95% of the minor problems it had, added a ton of upgrades, including a cam at about 120k, and i now have 127000 miles on it. I DD it and it runs strong, no smoke, no nothing. Great motor IMO. Like said before i wouldnt really worry about miles unless its like 150k miles. Just go through the car to the tee and you should be able to tell if its decent or not. Basically it all comes down to the maintenance when it comes to any kind of vehicle with a motor. Its the key.

Don't worry about mileage with the LSx engines. The transmissions may give you some problems though. My T56 went at 29k, it broke a slider key. The automatics are tough but if it was not serviced on a regular basis you may want to move on to another car. The 10 bolt rear was a mistake from the beginning. No reason not to have the 12 bolt put in the car when new, just charge another 3 to 4 hundred dollars. Hell, my car was almost 34k, what's another 4 hundred bucks for a 12 bolt.

Personally, unless it's an immediate project car I don't ever entertain anything with over 40k on the clock..

Mileage always matters I don't care what engine it has unless it's a diesel..

Take that strong running 150k LS1 for a drive and then jump strait into one that has say 25-30k on it,
there will surely be a difference you can count on it..

With that said, as others have stated, how the car/truck, ect was taken care of is key to any sort lasting reliability.

General build quality plays a part too.

If you throw enough money @ anything you can drive it just about forever..
