If you don't push down the 4 metal tabs on the motor the brass gear will fail after time, the tabs are very crucial!

That's weird my lights pop up even when I just switch the light selector from off to parking lamps, then it goes down as normal when I go back to off, only it grinds for about 5 seconds on the passenger side, sounds like the same problem, only it's weird that they come up just from turning my parking lamps on.

It will likely do the same thing when you lock the doors using your remote then. There must be a sensor that thinks the headlight isn't fully closed due to the motor problem, and it retries by opening and closing when the parking lights flash. If the noise is too painful, as I found it, I just removed the fuses for the headlight motors until I had it fixed.

Ouch...$85 for a gear. I got the plastic gears for sale for $20 shipped. Yes I know what your going to say.."Why put in a plastic if it is just going to strip later?" Well think about how many miles are on you car at the time they went out. Are you planning on keeping it that many more miles later? If yes, then buy the brass ones. If no, then get the plastic ones, plus the are cheaper, if you want to save some money.
