Has anyone tried this?
I know most of us have aftermarket stereos and no longer use the factory stereo buttons on the steering wheel. Has anyone wired into them to use them for anything else? I thought it would be cool if I could use one of the stereo buttons on the wheel for my line lock control. Anyone manage this?

Red Tint Jewelcoat- 2008 Trailblazer SS
I want to use the volume button for a variable nitrous shot.
That might actually convince me to use a bottle.

It is possible I've heard of people doing it, don't know them personally. It just takes a bit of wiring know how.

There is a company that sells a kit that plugs into the harness coming from the steering wheel to allow it to also activate your buttons in your new stereo. Thats what I did in my last car. Now I have another bird and about to do the same thing after I fix a few things.

It would be hard to "wire" up. The steering wheel buttons all go to the same wire and they send out 12v with a different resistance and thats how the stereo knows which button is pushed. If you did wire to it without a circuit to determine which one all of them would trigger the relay maybe. I think it might be more like 5v thought.
They do make a little device and I forget the name off hand you can get them from Crutchfield I think its a PAX-XXX but it is just a ir blaster you train it based on what comes from the switches then tell it what IR signal from your remote to mimick then you place the little blaster somewhere it can point at the stereo. I have this installed on my 98 and 96 f-body's works great.
