Is this a good deal??

I'm considering buying a Formula. I'm just trying to see if its worth the cash considering the money it will need put into it. Its a 93, 132k miles, leather and a 6 speed. Mechanically its supposed to be sound. It has an exhaust leak from up front somewhere, and a slow oil leak from what they're describing as around the drain plug. Recently tuned up, supposed to run great.

Now for the bad. Its scratched up all over, has several dents in the hood, probably needs replaced, can't be pulled. And a dent behind the passenger side door which probably could be pulled. Oh and its got a cracked taillight. Also, they describe the steering as tight / requiring effort when moving slow, but fine while at speed.

So its going to probably need a hood, a little body work, and a paint job. Plus exhaust work.

Its about 9 hours away from me. So even if I can meet them halfway I'm looking at some $$ to go get it.

If I could pick the car up for close to $2000 would this be a decent winter project car?? I just don't want to have more into it than its worth when I get done with it. I'm considering just holding out, saving up some more cash, and buying a nicer one. But it would be fun to have a driveable weekend toy now, that I can slowly throw money at and fix up.

Another perk is that its owned by a couple in their 30's driven daily by the wife. And its completely bone stock. So I don't think its been abused.

I'd like to put a ram air hood on it, and keep it the same color, black, when I paint it, so it shouldn't cost $3k to paint it. Considering all this, what might I be looking at to piece it together, and do you think its worth it?

If you were looking for a project car I'd go with a LS1 powered one that needs some help for around the same price.

That would be kind of hard to find, everyone is over pricing the LS1s these days

Some guy near me is selling his SOM SS 6spd. Well over your price range and on the west coast.

Look for another deal, a first year 4th gen. with that many miles and those problems should be under a grand. You can find good deals on high mileage 98-02's if you look hard enough, that way you can get an LS1 equipped F-body.
