Getting ready to Graduate High School....

Hello to all, this is my first post on Ls1.com.....anyways.... I'm just a junior but as a gift i get a car for college( i have to pay insurance and gas)... I have always wanted an F-body... But with gas prices as high as they are my father isn't too sure about the trans am anymore. He says there is no way that a 5.7 V8 pushing over 300 hp( referring to the trans am Ls1) can get over 25 mpg.. he says if it gets over 25 then he will be fine with it. Also on a side note, i have always wanted the Manual 6-speed, not only because of the performance gains, but increased economy... Does the A4 make mileage considerably close to the M6? I know to have an A4 for performance you need a stall but yea... is there any difference in performance?

    Thanks for the help

Get what you want. It you want a 6M go for it. It will get better mileage. It you want the A4 get the auto. Get what you want or you will not be happy! I have a 6M formula and love it! Take care of what ever you get and work hard in school. School is more important. Don't be a "show off" in an
LS1 or it will get you!

Now that is a True statement..... I love driving standard cars, but not so much trucks...don't know why... I will get the M6... but the point on the pencil is, does a 5.7 LS1 really get 28-29 advertised mileage?? I am just a young driver, but i know my limits, and dont plan to "hotrod"... at least not in public

Definatley get the 6-speed LS1, you may only get 18-21 mpg in the city, but I have heard of many people getting high 20's on the highway especially with an M6. The 3.8 V6 will not get alot better fuel economy. You gotta think, over 100 extra hp with the LS1 versus getting a couple of extra mpg in the V6. That would be an easy decision for me, get the LS1!

O the 3.8 is not even an option! i cant stand going by a perfect looking, clean trans am... and then all of a sudden when they get on the gas... you hear the Weak sound of the V6 ... on this forum some claim that the V8 gets better economy then the V6... but if that were true, why would anyone get a V6????

I own an m6 LT1 formula and a A4 LS1 my LS1's best run is a 13.3 with only a catback and lid A4 is still fast in its own right, but i'll admit the manuel is more fun to drive IMO...LS1's do get good gas milage, you just can't have a led foot which can be hard at times driving one of these baby's LoL

that was averaging 80mph on the highway. if u keep it to the speed limit ull see the 28 pretty easy in a 6 speed. the car is basically at idle at 60 in 6th

I get about 26 on the highway with a M6. I'd like to say that I get in the 20's in the city but i love the loud peddle just a little too much. there is a differance between what i can get in my car and me going "I have one bad ass car I just can't resist the urge to use it"

my car is an A4. i just moved back to michigan from florida about a month ago, on the way up my father drove his truck full of crap and my car full as well, we went about 65-70 the whole way to not get pulled over, my cars first tank was 25mpg and the highest was 28mpg, now around town i get 18-21 depends on how i drive it.

If your easy on the gas and stay around 70 you can easily see 28-30 mpg on the highway with a m6.

    My life is a
    Ben Stiller movie.

keep something in mind: on your highway trip, you will hit stop/go bumper to bumper traffic, red lights and stop signs etc. I'm sure your campus has stop signs and a 15mph max limit...that's all 1st/2nd/3rd gear stuff = TERRIBLE gas milage.

    00 TA m6 vert

    Some MPG info...

My 2000 firebird V6 auto (all stock, had 70k on it), used to get 21 city, 26 hwy on 87 octane

My 99 TA A4 (all stock, 188k, 93 octane), gets 13 city, 18 hwy but I've beat the living shit out it everyday for almost 10 years

My 00 TA M6 (35k, 93 octane) got 20/30 when it was stock, with full exhaust and intake I'm getting slightly bettter, but I only drive her on the weekend and very nicely.

Hope this helps. Don;t settle for the v6.... even though they are lot cheaper initially to buy, the performance is so terrible you will hate the car.

6th gear goes all the way up past 250 mph (if you have the power). at 80 you will be around 1600 rpm. yes evenat 80 i get great gas mileage even when going 80 on the highways
