Gear Question
Hey, I have 2.73's in my 99 T/A. I'm thinking about going to a 3.42 or 3.73. When you do a gear swap in on of these, does the computer freak? Do you need to do anything else? What about speedo calibration? Haven't done a gear swap in a computer controled car.

I have a 98 firebird with 3:42 gears the easiest is have the gear installed of your choice and buy a hypertech programmer and re-set the computer with the new ratio. Dont drive the car before the re-program the tranny will shift all funny on you. That is what i did and it works beautiful.

When you hypertech it, It will fix the speedo, trans shift points and allow adjustment for tire size, and other fun stuff.

Not to hijack this thread, but this is what I was looking for tonight. I have the Hypertech and it only lets me select 2.73 or 3.15 (A4 vette) and I just installed 3.42s.
Anyone know if there's another option on these things? I'm thinking I might have to calculate the difference and make up for it on tire size setting.

don't wast your money on a hyper tech just have some one tune your car or buy hp tuner or ls1 edit.

They are about 350.00 at Summit Racing. If he is just doing gears HP or LS1 is over kill for him. Hypertech is great for doing small things to the car. If you are planning on doing a cam and other major things then HP or LS1 would be better but its about twice the cost. I dont trust anyone to PCM tune my car other then me.

Whay hypertech do you have 2 or 3 and whay year vette is it? I know there are limitations to vetts on the hyper tech 2.

1999-2004 Corvette LS6 (Z06) DOES NOT support the shift points/firmness for the rear gear ratio options

I got my Hypertech for about $150 on eBay - big difference from $600 for LS1 edit or HP Tuners. Not everyone has that kind of money to blow on tuning software, thats a lot of cash.
Not everyone has the option to have their car tuned at a shop either. Here in NJ there are very few places (I can't find any) that tune GM LS1 engines in F-Bodies, so that may not even be an option for many people.
