That is correct, your car's computer will adjust to the lower octane but like we said, is $2 extra a fill up that big a deal?? C'mon now. You probably haven't noticed b/c you don't go long enough on 91 or 93 to change the programming back. Try this, disconnect your battery over night after you put a full tank of premium in. Then after 1 or 2 fillups of premium see if you notice a difference. I certainly did with my wife's Z.

Always 93 Octane here, the fuel does have to meet specific requirements, but I have seen with AAFES (those are the stores on military installations) fuel, lotsa water out of the exhaust pipes and immediate (within two to three hours of filling up there...only twice) SES light reaction. Not the gas cap. Just crappy gas, for lack of a more scientific term.

You can get lots of water in any gasoline. When the underground tanks at the gas station get to low they will suck up lots of water. All those tanks have a certain amount of water in them and have to be checked constantly

sonnyyred, your right the gas stations are the problem if water is found in the gasoline. They are responsable for their in ground tanks. Water collects from moisture or a bad seal on the fill cover. When gasoline leaves the refineries it's water free. (note) octane does not make more power, but it will allow for more timing which will make more power.

Your right about the timing and such to make more power.GM states in the manual that you (may) have better pickup with 93 verses 87.But i'll be honest with you,my ss with no mods wants to spin out of controll when i hit on the pickup, with just 87 in the tank.Even noticed the the rear quarter started to crease from the intense torgue.Until i install lca and a sfc only then will i start filling up with 93.You see my point i hope.As it stands right now it would be overkill in my case.I just got to get those mods.

I understand, if the engine isn't telling you to run 93 don't waste the money. I'm new to the ls1 engines but have been building big blocks for sometime. I've got a lot to learn about these systems.

Yah, AAFES gas is shit, that's why it's so cheap. I almost never fill up on base unless I absolutely have to. .4 or .5 cents extra is worth it to me to use the Chevron right off base.
