Functional Shaker Scoop on 4th Gen

I like the look of the shaker scoop on the older Trans Ams and have seen a couple examples on the net of people who have managed to add functional ones their 4th gens. However, this seems like it would be complicated and expensive. I would like to have the look of the scoop but want it to perform some kind of function, perhaps as a vent hot air could flow out of the engine bay through. I'm thinking the scoop could be attached to the hood rather than the engine itself. Has anyone tried doing a setup like this? Any potential problems? Would it increase, decrease, or affect performance in any way?

Take the ram air intake off of a '97 Camaro SS and go from there...might work.

I remember sun coast creations had a special big air filter you could put on instead of your lid, or something like that. I also remember hearing about a "stealth box" that fast toys used to make, my buddy had it on his t/a, and it was sealed, kinda made it more of a bottom feeder, leaving u room for a stock t/a hood and put a shaker on there. hope that helps

Says 98-03 trans am. I now have to question their intelligence. If they make a particular part for cars they should know what years the thing was made.

the reason the old shakers looks so good is because they actually worked .. even if it was functional, it would not help any would be all cosmetic ...

I've always wondered what that'd look like. Only one's done are the sleek beak hoods

Here's the shaker we've been working on at 6LE.... It'll be funtional too!

It's just on the back burner for now since we're trying to get the Targa tops finished.

GM did a blue and white 4th gen show car in the firebird's final year that had a shaker hood scoop. I can't find the pictures, but there must be some on this site somewhere
