    Flat Y Pipe

This is my first LS1 car, so you'll have to pardon the newbie question...

I was looking under my car today and noticed that the y pipe is almost flat. Is it supposed to be? If so, it looks extremely restrictive!!!

Flattened in one spot for ground clearance but doesn't hurt performance.

I'm gonna go shopping for a new Y pipe myself. The passenger side looks good, but the driver side is only 3/4 to 1 inch tall. I want to keep the car pretty much stock, but I think that thing's got to go.

Any Suggestions on brand, or should I just go down to the local shop ,and have one made???

You won't gain any power by switching out just the Y pipe. The stock one does flow fairly efficiently. It'd be a waste of money if you ask me. I'd wait and do a header/y pipe combo.

+1 I read on the tech site a report on how they checked the flattened side and it flowed just the same. IT is a waste of $$$, if you are hell bent on doing it just go to a local muffler shop and have them cut out that 1 ft section and weld a round piece in, it will be a helluva lot cheaper than a whole new Y-Pipe.

Actually the Y-pipe is 2 1/4 in. not 2 3/4 in. mines off and I have measured it. The stock I-pipe is 2 3/4 in.

I probably isnt very restrictive, but going from a round header into a flat y has to cause some sort of minor restriction.

    Not from a stock manifold.

Yes, and honestly, DO NOT worry about changing it UNTIL you get a new y-Pipe with headers. You are wasting $$$ that should be spent eslewhere
