First 1/4 mile
Tomorrow (Friday) I'm going to run my first 1/4 mile against my buddys (new to him) syclone. I know their fast but neither one of us has ran on a track before so I'm hoping obviously that I win or at least it will be close. I heard syclones are really quick because of the awd so I'm hoping I'll catch him. Should I talk crap or not say to much untill we run.

I hope so. He has some bolt ons but so do I. And you can boost launch those turbos but I'm hoping he doesn't know how.

Get a slip and post it up I'd like to see how close of a race it is. I would say alot of it depends on how good you can hook up and your 60ft time. That Syclone will launch hard from what I remember of course I haven't known anyone with a Syclone or a Typhoon since I lived in MA in the late 90's my detailer had a Typhoon and hid father had the Syclone. Wish I would have been smart enought to pick out up back then. Honestly I woould say it depends what bolt ons he has it doesn't take much to really make a turbo vehicle faster.

Don't feel too bad you said it's your 1st time there and you really have to worry about launch and hitting the gears with a M6. He already can launch hard with the AWD and it's a biased setup that sends extra power to the rear so he won't have to worry about getting moving. If he beats you get him to race you from a 50 roll on the way home that was you don't have to worry about spin and see how that works out.

I have 275 40 18's on the back and I did a couple test launches last night and it seemed like 2500rpm's is the number. I rode in his syclone and it doesn't seem as fast as I thought it would be. I think he needs a tune it's only putting out 11 psi of boost and it's supposed to be 15 stock I'm pretty sure I got him

We got to the track late so I only got two horrible runs in. I didnt know what to expect. I think the track was horrible. My first run i shifted to 2nd around 40 to 50 give or take and the whole car slid sideways and I caught a glimse of the guard rail and it freaked me out. Thats never even happen to me on a regular road. It was dark and I couldn't even tell where the finish line was so on both runs I slowed down before the finish line. It was marked by a tiny yellow light to the side. The track isn't lit well so I kept thinking I was running out of pavement. I beat the syclone but thats not saying much it needs a tune bad it ran like a 15. The good news I'm very confident my car will run mid 13's maybe low with a tune. I just need to get more time in on the track.

and my first run i smoked the tires alot warming up dropping the clutch at 3000rpm so i got up to take off and droped it at 2500 and it barked and took off slow. So the start line obviously has some extra grip stuff on the pavement. Can you tell i'm new at this

But you had fun, and beat the Syclone, eh? Those things can launch, but then they run out of breath. Sure sounds like a poorly run track, but at least there is a track to run on. Just practice there again soon, I need to get to the track this year soon, maybe after the 4th. Sure has been hot (low 90s) and humid, which hurts times, even with the ~700 ft altitude around here.

Don't drop the clutch would be my first bit of advice. Feather the clutch out and then hammer the throttle. It takes practice to get it right, but when done properly you pull a much better 60' time. Dropping the clutch will either result in wheel spin, the car bogging, or if you have a stock rear and your tires grip - you detonate the carrier and other rear end components - only a matter of time, ask me how I know. But you're right, it just takes a lot of practice. Once you log some more time at the track, you'll be dropping your times quick. What track did you go to? And what are your mods?

Yeah the car did bog a bit. Thanks for the advice. Theres no altitude at this track. The temp was about 72 or 73 with 40% humidity. I have a lid, ported polished maf no screen, ory, cat delete.

Yea you definitely shouldn't be anywhere near a 15 but bad conditions and first times are a factor. Hell I think I've only seen one ls1 maro up here in Colorado 5,800ft up run a 15

Yeah I can't wait to go again when it's light out. I let up about 150ft before the finish line and coasted through and ran an embarrasing 14.4 with a bad launch.
