    F-body Quality???

I had another thread that i stated that i was going to get a new T/A. And i have test driven couple of them and i am getting serious about buying one which i have my eyes on. Heres my concern. i've had 4 previous cars only 1 domestic(ford focus) and the rest were japanese. AND i would always open all my car up and look under the hood(i was younger and didnt know much about cars) and i have to say LOTS of shit in the car were pure PLASTIC! low quality crappy material. I cant say the same about my civic that i used to own and my two mr2's i abused the crap out of those cars and they never failed me. Though they were not very fast they still passed my test b/c they were able to be great even all of my abusings. HERES THE BIG QUESTION:

HOW are the F-BODYS WHEN IT COMES TO QUALITY? the cameros, t/a or w/e

AND how many mpg do you guys usually get in the city & highway when NOT abusing? and when you are....

The Camaro and the Trans Am weren't a luxury vehicle. Don't expect a great interior or crazy options with one.
Mine is fully loaded. Power windows, power locks, ABS, TCS, etc...

They were basicly made for brute force. The higher the mileage the more minor rattles the interior could start to develop.
    Mechanical??? Very solid.

F-bods are solid cars, but the're no lexus if thats what you want us to say. They were built to look good and haul ass. I can manage around 17 mpg in town and around 26 on the highway, Not close to a civic's mpg by any means but I didnt buy the car for gas milleage.

i just bought my 2nd f-body about a month ago and they seem much more solid than other cars i have driven. i get a solid 23mpg average when i fill up and my driving is evenly distributed between city and highway

Mileage wise....I got 31MPG on the highway with the M6, bolt-ons, and stock gears.
Got 27.5MPH on the highway with a cam (226/234 554/575 112), bolt-ons, and stock gears.
Before the cam I was able to get 23-24MPG around town if I babied it. After around 22MPG.

Little different now, but I am up on cubes and have a large cam and 4.11's.
Although, when you purchase one of these cars, gas mileage shouldn't really be on your mind.

i agree with you on that. if you are getting one don't expect good gas mileage. that is not why you get a car like this

Fbody's are very solid cars when it comes to abusing the hell out of. They're definately easier and cheaper to fix if something does break but Interior, they're nice but not you can tell it was made for only one purpose

I get around 14 mpg driving mostly in town, but I live in so cal where it's all stop and go. have to stop every mile. but hey, it's the most fun 14 miles per gallon you can have.

on the freeway it's a whole different story as long as you aren't going 90, which is hard not to do since it's so fast and fun. but going 75, I can get 25 mpg easy.

the engine bay doesn't have any plastic crap in it. no engine covers or anything that isn't necessary. why would you want to cover up such a cool looking engine?

the inside is nice. leather is alright, not a luxery car but it works for me. power window motors die like crazy, but you can get them fixed with better motors. there's plastic on the inside of the car, but you really don't think about it while driving. you're too busy having a blast.

Thanks to everyones responses. It sounds like you guys cars gets a good mpg on the highway atleast. You know if your gonna look at a car for your daily driver you SHOULD look at the mpg, its kind of a natural. My current car(Honda passport) gets the same window problems, slow window motors. then again my car has 168,xxx on it, Is that something pricy to fix?

gas millage should be the least of your concerns really... I get by pretty well on mainly city driving... it also depends if it's Manual or Auto... but I"m pretty sure that the first time you pull up at a light... and blow the doors off some Ricer bothering you... you'll be glad you have it and say to yourself... "and to think I was concerned about Fuel Millage" ...

btw, on a full tank I can go a week of driving... mostly city stop and go type stuff... (I have never really calculated MPG)

If you wana ls1 with luxury type interior just save up and get a GTO, if you want a great looking car that does what it was made to do, GO FAST then get a f-body. As far as high mileage there are some guys on here running mid 13s with stock f-bodys with over 130k on them, i have seen stock f-bdoys with more then 110kmiles dyno at over 300rwhp with my own eyes.

Gas isnt that bad, especially with the M6. With mods tuning and shit I see many times people getting almost 30 mpg. I know gutted out civics with built motors that still only run 14s -13s and get under 20mpg. fuck the gas mileage its the american thing to do.

And besides the window motor which is easy to fix, when you go all out and build an extra fast f-body gotta watch that rear end. Its as strong as glass only 7.5 inches

    My life is a
    Ben Stiller movie.

yeah, the interior is cheap compared to a vette, but compared to someone elses' cloth-covered, daily driver, and if kept clean-instant wow factor. Every time I open my door, people drop their jaws and say "omg...it's so clean!" followed by "i love the leather!"

well im not made out of money and i dont want to pull up to the gas station every other day to fill up the tank, so yes the mpg can be a concern of mine but im happy with what i get out of my passport right now, around 20-25 average and it sounds like you guys do get that, so that makes me alittle happier. And someone here posted that the F-bodys can take good abusing. Is that true? can they handle the redline crulty well?

The ls1 engine is solid in stock form with the stock limiters set. If you get an auto that would go before the engine most likely. The rear ends also start to go after alot of beating.
