    Question DRL socket fried

Anyone know of a fix for the Daytime Running Lights (DRL) that seem to always hold water, which ends up destroying the lamp socket? I'm guessing the sockets need to be replaced. I also recall someone saying they drilled some holes in the lense/lamp housing to allow water to drain out.

Assuming the sockets need to be replaced (they're black and crispy) does anyone know the GM part numbers for them?

    Thanks for the help.

hi, that was me. You can drill a hole throught he bottom of the socket, make sure you go between the wires!

Buy some new sockets from fred beans [sponsor] just call them and tell them what you need.

slap some bulb grease in the socket too [it's like vaseline and can be found at auto zone for a buck].

Also check your housing for leaks; you can smear some epoxy or liquid weather strip on any holes you find.

i suggest replacing both DRLS. Rememeber to look at what wires go where, b/c the new ones don't come with properly colored wires

Thanks TSS. Do you recall the cost of the sockets? Nothing exact, just an approximate cost.

    Thanks again!

    Angry

Just for informational value, I purchased a replacement socket from my local GM dealer; it was $65!! I couldn't believe I paid $65 for a cheap socket to correct a problem stemming from an obviously poorly designed light, so I stopped at AutoZone on my way home. I found the same, or very similar, socket there and it was $7! Needless to say, I returned the GM part.
