    Door molding removed

I finally made the leap and took off those nasty looking door ding moldings...literally I decided yesterday when I was fixing my turn signal that those things need to go. What pushed me? They were starting to discolor and that's just nasty.

I'm having a tough time removing some of the foam/glue stuff. I tried Bug and Tar remover and that helped. Then I got some Goo Gone...(I haven't tried it yet; but will this morning)

What do you guys use to get it off? Did you just use your fingernails to remove some?

Yeah, the majority of the glue has to be rolled off with your thumb. You might get a blister but, that is normal for this stuff.

After its all removed, you can then use some goo gone etc. I used some of that bumper sticker remover in a can and then washed it real well.

Yes. Just removing the molding will still show an outline of where the molding was.

Even with my black car, I could still see the outline until I used a polish and wax. Then, it didn't even look like it had molding on.

I just used a razor made of plastic made for removing decals and such but i just pulled/tore and cut it off then for the extran glue i took the razor and went up and down on itwhile applying pressure and it will come of pretty easy

a good idea for making it a bit easier is to keep it wet

once i got the main strip of glue off, i used WD40 to take the rest of the glue off. i then polished where the strip was so you couldnt tell it was there.

passenger molding gone and never to be seen again.

My fingernails and thumbs hurt, so the drivers side is half done until I get feeling back into my fingers LOL

What type of plastic razor? Did you make it?

P.S. I just installed an LED 3rd brake light too. It looks good!

ok, so if you havent got the glue off yet then what you need is called a chizzler (plastic scraper tool, and some mineral spirits (avail at any place that sells paint like wal-mart, home depot) the mineral spirits will NOT harm youre paint or clear, dump some of that stuff on the glue and rub it into it. let it sit a minute and use the plastic scraper tool to get the glue off, we use it all the time at the paint/graphics shop i work for. hope that helps ya out a little bit. if you need a chizzler then let me know, i might have a couple laying around

Use Ronsonol lighter fluid. I have used it to remove emblems and old stickers. Works great!!

when I took mine off in aug 2003 in SC it was so hot that I was able to pull off the moldings and 90% of the crap stuck to the molding the rest I basically rolled up into a ball and pulled off. I then used some goo gone to clean up the residue then waxed it!!
