    Dash Covers GRRrrr

I just found a crack in my dash. This is one that I replaced last summer

I can't stand seeing it, it's like seeing a wort on a fine piece of ass. Driving me nuts. Makes me want to

So now I have to ask, how do ya'll feel about dash covers? They run about $40-$50.

I hate spending $100 plus dollars on a piece of plastic that cracks every yr. Dealer wants $380 so that isn't an option.

I just don't want it to come off as tacky

    Now I'm even more pissed......

I think dash covers are ugly as hell.

That being said I would personally replace yet again. But I would think about why its cracking first. Is it b/c of exposure to sun? age? etc?

I put a windshield visor on the car everytime its outside just to save the dash

most people dont even notice it, bought 2 square yards of vinyl from a trim shop at $8 sq.yard. took the dash cover out(broke it in half in the process GRRRR) used cereal box cardboard on the bottom mixed with epoxy to get it back together, sanded the top, painted it. and cut the vinyl in the shape i wanted it layed it over, put a drop of glue here and there to keep it down and presto:

Justin's cover is the best I've seen when it comes to blending in with the interior and not standing out.

So many that I see remind me of a pimp-mobile.

Bet you can't even see Justin's from outside the car.

I'd recommend something like that instead of the thick padded ones.

I've got one in my car. It's a driveway queen It doesn't look great, but, it protects my dash. I don't even notice it anymore. But, I did notice when I got it, that it really helped to cut down on the glare.

It fits pretty well. I don't have it fastened down at all. So, if I want, I can just slip it out. Just an inexpensive cover I got at JC Whitney.

I like how yours blends in. I know some ppl that do upholstery that might be able to sew up the edges to clean it up. It gives me another option.

    Thx...

another thing... about buying a new plastic dash... if i got one i would definatly sand the entire bottom side and spread a pint of epoxy over it to make it as durable as possible, that said, to get the dash back in, you HAVE to bend/flex it, as it wont fit by the a pillers, even if you take the plastic covers off. NOTHING will piss you off more than buying a new piece and breaking while putting it in. honestly, if your going to spend $200 bucks for a new plastic cover, i'd pay to have the windshield taken off by a professional, (keep in mind, if you buy a windshild installation is usually free, so to pay someone to do this probably wouldnt be much) and drop the new cover in that way, its 3458x safer for the cover and your wallet.

if the dealership installs it they opt to pull your entire dash out (speedo, radio, a/c controls, etc) so thats another option i guess..

When I put mine in last summer I had no issues. I removed the covers off the A pillars and it went in like butter. It took longer to get the pillar coves off then it did to slide the cover in place.

I honestly liked this one and would've bought it, had I not sold the car. And yes, they cut Glare down A LOT!

What are you using to clean the dash? I hadn't heard this to be a common issue outside of third gens and armorall. For two in a year, makes you wonder.

That's not bad looking at all.

I had it drilled into my head at an early age that Armorall is the very worst possible thing you can use on your interior. I'll never use it.

I have a 98TA that was a DD for almost 10yrs and my dash looks like new. I used some black magic tire wet on it in the begining so it would soak into the dash a little and have use meguires for the last several years and no cracks or even discoloring. I do use a sunshade when I remember but that's only half the time. I think if yours are cracking like that there has to be another issue. We replaced the dash in my friends 99 Formula with a new GM piece from conquestauto which is autopartscheaper.com Was like $200 but it's been a few years and no issues yet.
