There is hardly any difference between 3.42's and 3.73's.

If you've already got 3.73's then go with it.

BTW, what brand? Motive? FWIW, I've had only 1 set of 3.73's that didn't whine like a whore that wasn't getting paid. That was AAM (factory stock type).

A4 with 3.73's and stock stall (for now). Did a 3-1/2 highway run a few weeks ago running anywhere from 65 to 75 mph. Certainly not turning the engine hard at all.

Just trust us... A4 likes 3.73s and Yank 3600 stall torque converter.

those stalls from what ive seen are pretty expensive would the 3500 stall affect the highway driving if im not running that high of an rpm? i would think it woukd almost feel like the tranny tryin to slip??

no they lock up and it'll feel like stock. IF you get a torque converter, you are gonna want to spend the money on a really good one. Otherwise your are throwing money out the window on crappy parts.

I am pretty sure my 99 a4 has 3.23 gears...so if I put in a 3.73 would I have to get a stall? Would a gear swap increase my hp or just the speed in which I switch gears?

you dont have to get a stall the gears dont increase hp you would actually be shifting at a lower speed not higher
the stall is for launching while racing from a dead stop the car has more power at a higher rmp so if youre at the higher rpm while launching you have more power while taking off

As part of the gear change you reprogram your PCM for the new gear ratio(mailorder via Frost recommended, but a handheld will do this as well). We went from 3.23 to 3.73 in our car and it runs and drives as it always did. Just gets itself moving a bit quicker is all.

No you wouldn't need a stall. But I would do a stall first.
