Carbon Fiber Hood??
I have been putting off getting a new hood for a while now (mine has some very minor damage) but I am ready to get it done. Instead of getting a factory replacement WS6 hood, I have been exploring other options. One idea I had was to look into carbon fiber hoods. I have seen many, but never on an fbod. My car is black, and think it would look good, but I'd love to see pictures of it. Does anyone have one or are they even available? Any advice, info, or opinions would be appreciated.

I tried to order a VIS carbon fiber hood. They sent the wrong hood then independent dealer tried to rip me off. But, the hood they sent (93-97 FB) was very nice. Had a nice finish and was very sturdy. Was light, and holes were predrilled. After that, didnt want to mess with it. Buy directly from VIS, you can buy with vents out and screened.

So if you get it you leave it carbon or paint it?

Got me one!
I've recently purchased an WS-6 ViS hood for mine from Carbonfiberhoods.net. It is listed as a Pontiac Firebird GTO ViS carbon fiber hood because "WS-6" is a registered trademark. Mine was painted red. So yes, they can be painted.

Hmmm, maybe intresting. Personally I would paint it, maybe leave some CF showing in a stripe or something.
Edit: Looking at there site, not badly priced... Hmm, can we see a pic of there hoods on our or other cars, to see how they fit?Last edited by SHines-IT; 07-21-2009 at 05:35 AM.

That's not bad at all, think it would look good on a white car?

I guess that hood is partially painted?? They should have either painted the whole hood or, personally, I would have left the whole hood carbon fiber.

I've often wondered how it would look on my NBM car.
I think it would look good on the black car if you did two things:
1)Get carbon fiber enblems and/or carbon fiber overlays for the emblems and front plate filler.
2) Use gloss black (to match the paint) and do either Blackbird or Aniversary stripes on the hood. Doesn't have to be paint, they sell these stripe kits in vinyl.
IMO those two things will tie everything together.
I've thought of doing it like this on my NBM car.
Not sure about NBM, but with black I think it'll be a winner.

That whatI was afraid of too, but my car is black, so I'm not sure, it might be ok left unpainted. If my car was any other color it would def. be getting painted. This is why I need to see some pics!

Looks good on dark colors, not good for white. I was never a fan of Cf, but I really liked the hood, it had a nice finish. The underside wasnt rough like I hear about fiberglass. It would have complemented the nicest paint job. Might try again in near future.
