The 60's musclecars were "restored", usually not rebuilt from salvage.
Now that GM is reviving the Camaro our TransAms won't hold their value like before.
A friend of mine just bought a 2001 TransAm WS6 convertable with 30k miles for 15K. Clear title.
Another friend of mine bought a 2000 TransAm WS6 with rebuilt title in 2003 and paid $9500.
    Hope everything works-out for you.
I know that's an apples-to-oranges comparison, but I was just using it loosely.

I realize these cars will never appreciate in value the was the 60's car are. But then again, you never know. I'm starting to see 3rd gens going for more money, well nice ones anyway.

Plus, the T/A's might not take as big a hit as the Camaros since as far as I know, GM has no plans to bring back the 'Bird.

    But anyway....

How'd your buddy with the '00 T/A make out? Has he had any problems with hte car since he bought it? Sounds like he got a great price, especially in '03.

No problems at all, can't even tell anything had been done to it.

That's cool. Does he know how extensive the damage originally was?

Well I'm glad it worked out for him. Hopefully I'll have the same luck with this car.

I'm hoping I'll hear back from the seller tomorrow and can make plans to see it this week.

I heard back from the seller today. He's the first out of the four people I emailed to write back.

    Here's what he wrote:

"Reconstructed means the car preveously had a salvage title. The car was
purchased and fixed and then inspected by state police. The RMV issues a new title as reconstructed. The car had fresh water damage in 2001. I purchased in jan 2002 and fixed. The car has brand new z06 corvette rims (not shown in picture). "

Ok, that doesn't sound too bad. At least it wasn't wrecked. Water damage doesn't sound too great, but if it's been fixed and running for 5 years, then I imagine it was fixed right.

    Any thoughts?

Well how many miles have been put on since its been repaired, but just check it out and see what kind of condition the things in no one can give you an answer unless they see the car for themselves

At this point I'm thinking no. As much as I want a WS6 Formy, I don't know if it's worth the risk. EVERYONE I've talked to about it has told me to stay away from it.

I'm either going to have to wait it out, or settle for a Z.

I actually found another WS6 Formula, but it's a little out of my price range. 15K for a '98 M6 w/14k miles. I'd hate to buy that, I think I'd feel guilty about DD'ing such a low mileage car. Plus, I'm a little leary of a 9 year old car with such low miles.
