Blacked out center piece

Does anyone know where i can find the black center piece that goes between the tail lights? The one without the decals. Thanks

GM doesn't make a version without logo of some sort or the other - just remove the logo on your current center piece - can be wet sanded off with VERY fine paper

Yes they do make them order a filler plate for a 93 to 97 formula i have a 2001 with one on it and looks great.

I wet sanded mine with 2000 grit with a little dawn dish soap, then polishing compond and then a coat of wax.

Yes, I do occasionally sell them outright. I pick up the old faded units & rework them into really nice lookin' pieces.

I've done literally DOZENS of these things over the last couple years, ..., & have two in stock right now for sale or trade. $45 shipped if anyone is interested. $30 if you send me your old one first.

I start with a 600 grit, keeping it wet, using a small 1/4 sheet sander.
Then on to 1200-1500 by hand, then finish by hand with 2000 grit.
Then I use an old Black & Decker orbital polisher with Zaino's Glass Polish first, then on to the Zaino Plastic Polish.

They turn out excellent. Beautiful glossy shine. Had a guy one time, complained that it didn't match the taillights now because of too much shine! So he sent me the taillights to polish them also!

You'll get the same/similar description by most anyone else who has done it. Although some may not put that much work into it, .... You can also use other brands of polish. I've tried others, but didn't get the same quality results as I do with the Zaino process.

And yes, you can buy them from GM without the text & bird already. But they'll cost ya twice as much or more depending on the style you want.

Why could one not just use decal remover on it? Isn't that all they are and how much are the ones from GM. A lot of times . I'm to lazy and have no patience to sit there and sand all of that. I'm always afraid I'm going to mess up too.

They are 'embossed' in to the plastic with the ink.
You can easily remove the ink, but the slight embossed outline is still there.

That's another reason why I do it for ya, ..., makes it simple for the people who may not have the tools to do it themselves.

I have one question for ya PontiacFan, if i were to go your route and send you my panel for you to do it, would i have to continue waxing it so it could keep its luster, or would it fade if i didnt do it? You simply use the same care & cleaning method that you use now for the taillights & center section. No clearcoat necessary.
