belt woes
so it reacently rained hard here a few days ago. I had the misfortune of having to drive out in it. Anyway, the belts have been squealing since. Never had the problem before. it's cold out, so i dunno if the water just hasnt dried yet or not. any suggestions?

2 options,1)replace both belts 2)throw some comet cleaning powder on the ribbed part of the belt, crank up car and let run for a min.or so,temporary fix.

I had a squeeky belt last year during winter time. I replaced it with a goodyear gator and it didn't squeek anymore, but it has returned this year for winter. It goes away after getting warm though and isn't as loud as before.

I have the same problem with the belt squealing after it warms up and i thought it might just be cause of the cold, but i have a couple questions cause i'm kinda new at this and wanna do fix it myself. Is it a major problem or is it something the should be fixed asap and could cause problems? also like i said i'm trying to work on it on my own so is it a do it yourself problem or should i take it to a shop?

It's not a big problem. If it's just the belt, you can easily replace it yourself. There's a pulley you can pull down to release the belt and it will come right off. Go to autozone and ask for a good year gator back. There should also be a diagram of the belt configuration under your hood. Here is the link:

There are two belts. I believe you want the P/S, but I'm not sure. Someone here can answer.
If it's a pulley causing the sound then I can't help you, but at least replace the belt and go from there.Last edited by onetroubledguy; 12-22-2008 at 03:55 PM.
