Look to drop a bit more on that rebuild. Since you will have the block cracked open look to some upgrades. But a budget rebuild would be cam and lifters, hardened push rods, alighn honing, over bore, matching pistons and rings, new bearings are a must, same with gaskets and seals.

Look into getting some upgraded engine part for future build up. Its cheaper and easier to it now then later. If anything look into forged pistons and con rods. Up grade to ARP bolts and studs too.

check the sponsors for specials on forged shortblocks...wheni spun a rod bearing in my old engine i almost bought a forged shortblock for i think $2800...now add some stability goodies and you back in business...and you can check the classafieds to save you some loot for your other goodies as well.. Just my .02
