Anyone ever painted their wheels?
I have a 95 TA with the factory painted wheels (gray). Quick background. For 10+ years its been sitting. I pull it out once a year or so, clean it up, drive it around the neighborhood and put it away. Thats changing this summer.
At some point in time I tried to clean them with simple green. Dumb, I know. The paint is peeling in most areas, and discolored and blotchy in other areas. I thought about painting them black as a cheap work-around until I get around to putting new rims on it. Research shows the best method is to sand with 320 grit sandpaper, prime, paint, clear. I have read the the Rustoleum product line is fine for this.
Has anyone done this? What am I in for? Is there a better option?
(I am going to try to figure out how to post pics)

No reason you cannot clean and paint the wheels. As with any painting project, proper preparation is what makes or break it. I use Simple Green all the time and have never had it damage a painted surface. I liberally spray it underhood on all our cars when I detail the engine bays.
