    Antenna install questions

I'm new to the forums(I'll post in the new member section when I get home). I have a few questions on installing a new antenna. Here's the scenario...

Some idiot broke off my antenna while I was at work because it would no longer go down. I want to put in a rubber shorty antenna. Another reason I want to do this is because my mom bought me a portable xm radio for christmas last year, but it won't work in cars with automatic antennas.

    My questions are:
Can anyone recommend a good rubber antenna?
Is there much to converting an automatic antenna to a stationary one?
Will I need any extra wires or anything else?

    Many thanks in advance.

    -James

havent done it to a 4 gen but the swap should be fairy simple. id just go with a kit from autozone or something. you shouldn't have to buy anything else.

Is there anything I should know about unhooking the motor and running the antenna wire to the actual antenna?

Antenna wire is a simple unplug.. so is the motor... and the whole unit comes out with a couple of 10mm bolts..

Now if you buy a stubby that already has the wire on it, you may have to get an extension for it. I did.

Plus you have to make sure the connection on it will fit your radio. If it's a factory radio it will be smaller. If you have an aftermarket one it would be the same.

If it's just the antenna with no wires, I don't know, cause I haven't done it yet.

This is the best pic I have of my antenna.
