    Another signal/brake light issue

Hi all. Been a while since I've been on. (Hurricane Rita and Gustav concussion.) Anyway, I have bad left rear signal and brake light. I've researched many of the threads on this issue but my problem seems different. The sockets appear to be in good shape. If I turn on parking lights, they work. No flasher, no signal and no brake. The front turn works. Any help would be appreciated.

I can't help you much but I had a bad front driver's side turn signal. The socket was rusted, but still ok, and was just making a bad connection to the bulb. I had to play around with it until it worked.

Did you check fuses? I'm sure someone will be here shortly to help you troubleshoot it.

yep, checked fuses. I bought a couple new sockets. Ironically, the only one that shows any signs of damage is the front left but it still works.

i just bought a new bird a week ago and had the same issue. the previous owner had been driving it with out turn signals at all. He paid a dealership almost 400 dollars to have a new multifunction switch put in and the turn signals worked long enough for him to do the drive to atlanta to clemson. i took it a local dealership cause i couldn't figure it out cause the signals broke right after i got the car. end up it was the flasher that was causing the system to short circuit and it works perfect now.

Well I changed my flasher already. also changed out the only socket that shows any damage. I'm leaning towards the signal switch now. There was an old thread in here where someone researched the wiring and found that the brake signal does go through the signal switch. Also, I tried them today and they worked for about a minute. Sounds like fun changing the switch out but I refuse to pay that much for labor.

One more crazy thing to add. I have tried the signal light for the last few mornings and it has worked. Only for about 20-30 secs. If I try it in a few hours, nothing... ?????

I did buy a new switch. Should it inlclude the black switch handle?

Do I have to drop the whole steering column to change the switch out?

Check the wiring coming from the steering column - my buddy has a 02 WS6 and his brake lights/rear turnsignals wouldn't work when he was driving with the steering wheel down towards his lap - they would work when he would get out of the vehicle and tilt the wheel up, he thought I was joking with him - it was broken wires in the steering column from using the tilt - car wasn't that old so the dealer fixed this under warranty. Something else to look at - hope you figure out the problem

Funny...my front turn signal stopped working after it rained for a solid 2 days. When it dried it started working again. I guess water gets in where the socket is?
