I'm almost positive that they didn't make a Firehawk in 1998. There was a prototype that had exposed headlights, but they couldn't get it to pass some federal regulation. So, either you mistyped and ment to say "Formula", or someone is trying to con you by passing off a regular Firebird as a Firehawk. I can't remember the code for a Firehawk off the top of my head, (WU6 maybe), but I'd do a little more research before buying.

They made 6 in 98. A guy here in Michigan owned the white one. They were used for promotion in 98 and then sold. He had papers from SLP verifying that it was one. It also had flip-up headlights, BUT there was markings around that area possibly from test fitting fixed ones.

^ What he said, for verification.

WU6 correct for the 99-02 models.
There are some 1998 models out there, but they don't have the code. They were 'under the wire' so to speak becuase of what he said above. No approval on the headlight system. So they discontinued until the 1999 model year.

    Or something like that, ...

Send the VIN to Dave Hamburger on the Firehawk.com site & he can get verification for you. Dave 'is the man' when it comes to Firehawk VIN knowledge.

I don't get it, ..., Why buy it if it's not a true Firehawk?!?

From other posts on other boards, from another one of 'the guys who know', ... (Reg was a former SLP employee.)

"To clarify what has become confusing situation for certian enthusiasts, SLP Engineering, Inc. did not produce any 1998 model year Firehawks at its Montreal, Quebec, Canada production Facilities.

SLP did however add Firehawk contents to 6 1998 model Trans Ams and Formulas. That work was performed at our Troy, Michigan facility. The 6 were purchased locally from Pontiac/GMC dealers, converted in Troy, then used for 1998/9 model year marketing and sales activities.

In addition, it should be noted these vehicles do NOT contain the GM RPO code WU6 option code. While these vehicles do contain Firehawk content, they are NOT considered production Firehawks by SLP."

oh, well maybe not buy it. I just think that it would be cool. Only 6 of them made, and no real anything as far as records go. That would be sweet. But, that view is probably childish and unrealistic

I'd check it out on firehawk.com before I gave up on it. If it turned out to be 1 of the 6, it would be a very cool car to have. As far as your original question about the '98's having moor problems, I don't think they really have anymore then the later years. Plus, you get larger injectors, real 1LE suspension upgrades (if it turns out to be a WS6 and not a Firehawk), and a few other things that the later years didn't have. Good luck and let us know if it's a real Firehawk
