Pontiac stopped making that motor all together in *thinks*...76. After that pontiac's biggest motor was the 400. In 81 the T/A could have either 305, 301 N/A or the 301 Turbo. There were special Nascar additions with recaro bucket seats available in 81, but no 455.

    Not sure what "prutty" means.
Almost certain the 455 was produced in 1978.
    Nice car, either way.

yes i read it :That power comes from a mid-'70's Pontiac 455 block bored ,030-inch oversize for a true displacement of 462 cubic inches. Forged aluminum pistons (9.0:1 compression), a mild hydraulic-lifter camshaft, an aftermarket aluminum intake manifold"
sounds like you buy a new car with a rebuilt engine in it for 30k? in 1980? man i thought turbo t/a's were overpriced -in 89 at 30k
so whats so rare about it? alot of people did the same things with their 301's

im not so sure, is this Your car? are you selling it or just trying to feel special?

    2000 T/A WS6 Ram Air

The last year for the 455 in the T/A was 1976. This car, if you notice, is produced by a company... NOT general motors.

Thats not to say you couldnt buy an engine in 1981 and modify it to be a 455.. Im sure thats what they did. Another possibility is that it may have been possible to still buy a 455 in 1981 from GM.. But this, Im not sure of.

If its actually documented as advertised (because Everything on the internet is true, right?) then its more along the lines of a Specialty Vehicle.. ie: Not Stock

Either way, its a neat toy..

Yeah, I've got a '78 factory Pontiac service manual in front of me, and a 305 was available in '78...code "U", 8.4:1 comp ratio.

Interesting car. But sucks that it's advertised as 'matching numbers', when there' is absolutely no way it could have came from the factory that way.

Then I guess I stand corrected!

I did know that 305's were out before 82, but I posted what I did because I remember reading PHR back then & it was "big news" that the corporate 305 was being placed in the birds.
