U have 3.42 gears if your running up to 45. Those are the stock gears.

What was all the talk about hitting red line earlier in the thread, i have my rev limiter set at 6600 and don't shift till about 6400 when racing. Never had any problems.

I you get new push rods and take off the limiter you dont have to shift until you want to however, if you motor is stock or just has bolt ons you wont make any power after 6100rpms, if you dyno you will see the power drop off, its only useful to up the rpms when you do a cam swap.

What I'm saying is that on a stock, un-modified car, GM did NOT set the rev limiter at a point where engine damage (bent / broken parts) will occur. Certainly, running at the rev limiter all day will overheat the engine and eventually cause damage. But during normal racing, running the gears up to the rev limiter and even bouncing off it will NOT bend rods.

Now if you modify the rev limiter on a stock motor, all bets are off.

This is true they set the rev limiter just under what the parts are rated for, but i have seen some pushrods bend and some valve springs crack under stock or close to stock setups. I broke 3 springs at once with jsut headers, catback and a lid. When they took my motor apart they took the heads off thank god for my warrenty, but they said the motor doesnt look abused at all. They couldnt explain why the springs broke with just some bolt ons. So they put a new ls1 in the car. The warrenty place said if they dont know why they wont warrenty the motor so they paid for new ls1 in my car.

Why do you want to bring it down? Thats just silly, if its the stock limiter leave it where it is, if you move it down to 5700 or whatever then you cant wind it out. Listen yes your shit can break even with stock limiter, is it rare yes it is. The limiter on these cars is at jsut the right spot dont move it and if you shit breaks buy some parts that can handle alot more.
