    3.73 Gear Change?

So I have a stock 10 bold rear end with the 2.73 gear. Is it possible to make a change to a 3.73 or 3.42 gear? Everywhere I look to order states that I need to change to a "Series 3 Carrier". Can someone help explain that to me?

    Thanks!

    Sadly now demodded :(

While that was true at one point in time, the aftermarket currently makes a thicker gear that will work with the 2 series carrier.

Yes you can. I would call Richmond gear for choices since they have a great selection of ratios for your vehicle. I would normally recommend you replace your tiny 10 bolt with an aftermarket 9", 12 bolt or S60 but it looks like you have an automatice trans and I do not see a bunch of mods listed so a set of quality Richmond gears should live fine in your rear. Good luck and let us know how you make out.
My ride is a 2002 Camaro SS SLP #3296 with 30k, LTH, 3" Y, CME, Frost tune, K&N, ported TB, Blackwing lid, Bellows, MSD, Denso Iridium, and 85mm MAF, Bilsteins, Eibach springs, SLP strut brace, Adj. Panhard, TA Girdle, UMI, Pro 5.0, Nitto NT555
My wife has a 2004 GTO with the rare SAP, 18" wheels, K&N Cold Air System, MSD, Ported TB, Frost tune, Denso Iridium, Flowmaster cat-back, 3200 Yank, 75k

It does make a difference since the more HP you have and the harder the trans shifts will have an effect on the life of your rear. You have to remember that most of these cars with bolt on mods have 400 Net HP and they have these tiny 7.5" ring gears. It just does'nt add up.

Upgrading the stock rear is a gamble. It just isn't beefy enough for what our cars are capable of. Do you have plans for the track or sticking to the street with it?

Combination of both. It get's driven as much as possible! What's the sense in having it if I don't drive it?
