2011 Firebird?

I volunteer at Talladega Superspeedway for NASCAR's Alabama Raceway Ministries in the infield. I set up tents and small sound systems for pinewood derby races, bbq's and children's activity centers. I have been to 16 events at Talladega.
I met some guys from GM who had donated some prizes for us to give to the kids. They were looking at the infield road course because the American LeMans series and the SCCA were thinking of running an infield road course event in the near future. Talladega and Daytona are sister tracks. The infield road course at Talladega is only used by Harley Davidson to test bikes.
Tony Stewart and a few other drivers were in a tent looking at a car the GM guys brought for a select number of VIP's to see and get opinions. It was a 2008 Cadilac XLR 12cyl re-bodied and re-badged to be a 2011 Firebird. It had a back seat and suicide opening small doors like on a pick-up extended cab or a Saturn to easily access the back seat. The GM guy told me the last generation Bonneville was essentially the old Cadilac STS and he says this Firebird will essentially an old XLR.
A Firebird based on the old Cadilac XLR platform. Makes sense to me. The car looked nice...like an XLR with Pontiac nostril cues and the Firebird decal on the hood.

they won't bring it back like that at least. in fact with plans already on the table for a g8 coupe i'm fairly certain there won't be a bird.

Firebird was killed when GM pulled the plug on the Canada production plant, not due to the economy

how long ago was that? i was just reading a week or so ago that the g8 sport truck was a go and that the g8 coupe was next in line and would be coming within a year or so.

It really doesn't make sense to try to sell a gas guzzler at a time when the headlines on the news are of an impending economic disaster and fuel prices through the roof. It's kind of like Disney doing damage control for all the teenage stars they have showing up semi-nude with the letters TMZ across them in the tabloids. (Britney Spears, Jamie-Lynn Spears, Miley Cyrus and that chic from High School Musical).
Now is not a good time to promote a new Firebird or a G-8 truck. Now is not the time to sell horsepower and muscle. Hybrid is the key word today. E-85 or flex fuel. Mileage is the word of the day.
I saw this XLR-Firebird quite a while ago. Jack Roush showed up in Talladega in fall of 2003 with the new retro-stang a year before it hit the showrooms.

I agree, but how can justify buying a new hybrid or flex that's out of budget of 90% of america 25-30 g's for a new car because it saves gas, the extra money I spend on gas wouldn't equal the payment, but it's not even that.... oil is in everything....how can we get away from it without totaly changing the way life is conducted on a daily basis....seems like task that the world is not ready for...
