Pewter Metallic- 2001 Trans Am WS.6
2001 Trans Am power seat dissassembly
The drivers seat on my 01 WS6 is reclined back far too much. It looks like the adjuster is coming through the lower seat right near the handle. I think I found a new adjuster online, but I have no idea how the seats are even put together.
Anyone ever disassemble and repair one or know where I could find a schematic or something? I'm hoping everything bolts together or something.
If it comes to just replacing the seat, what options do I have? What other cars can I scrounge a seat from that would bolt up? Its a 6 way power seat, black leather, with the lumbar and bolster support. The car is a 2001 WS6.
Thanks,
Matto

I have never pulled apart the seats in our Trans Am, but in other cars it's not too bad a job. I have always removed the seat and then stripped off the covers. You may find that a weld has broken or something else that requires fabrication. I have had that happen on two of our cars over the years.

sunset orange metallic- 2002 T/A convertible
I just had my d/s seat do the same thing to me this summer ( about 1 month ago). THe whole seat reclining mechanism stripped its gears. Thankfully I wasn't driving at the time. Did you know that those California car dusters are the perfect length to prop up the seat until you get it fixed! Anyway, I went to the local Pontiac (!!) dealer on Rte 72 in Manahawkin, NJ to see about getting it fixed. The whole rack assembly was stripped. New it cost about $120, had to get it overnighted from NC!. The whole tab came to $247 to repair. I'm gonna have to start carrying a toolbox with me now I guess, even though I only have 46k on the car. The actual repair can't be that hard as the mechanic had my car done in about 45 mins. Good luck to you if you do it, as I said , it can't be that bad of a fix.
