Sunset Orange- 2001 Z28
I have a SOM Z28. Around here I've seen a SOM SS and also an SOM Trans Am.
So, they are rare but around.

Black- 1998 Trans Am WS6 'Vert
You might have a 2001 Formula in SOM (Sunset Orange Metalic, RPO 71U), but it is NOT a WS6.
There were approximately 26 '01 Formulas built in SOM, so that would be a fairly rare car. However, WS6 was no longer an option on the Formula in 2001, you needed to step up to a Trans Am to have the WS6 option available in 2001 and 2002.

I think you have a trans am ws6. All titles for trans ams say firebird formula. Read the codes on the sticker on the drivers door jamb. Should have a y84(82?) and a ws6

To be a true WS6 all 3 codes will appear on your RPO sticker. WS6, WS9, and Y82 (coupe) or Y84 (Vert). Trans Am will have 2 codes, WS9 and Y82 (Y84 Vert)

Well, alrighty then. A "true" Formula would have RPO W66 instead of Y82. My appolgies for the confusion, but its rather hard to tell when you start a thread calling your car a "Formula" and offer no pictures or RPO codes to support the claim. As you've found out, its not hard to confuse the two, because technically ALL V8 Firebirds have the WS9 Formula conversion package, but only the Y82/Y84 (vert) equipped cars are "Trans Ams", and only W66 cars are true "Formulas" (w/o the "Trans Am" uplevel trim option). Titles cannot be relied upon for accurate discriptions of trim level, some say "Formula" (to reflect the fact the car has a V8 instead of a V6), but some just say "Firebird" (even though it has a V8) or "Trans Am" as well. Depends more on the BMV person entering the info when the car is originally titled than on the state.
There were approximately 317 SOM T/A WS6s built in '01 (187 w/ M6, 130 w/ A4).
