1998 T/A air conditioning noise
Hey guys i was driving my t/a and i had the windows up tops on and my a/c was running for about 20 min while i was driving....when i stopped i heard a very annoying loud chattering noise and i knew what it was from my friends t/a. as soon as i turned the air off the noise stopped but when i turned it on again the engine shut off. when i turned it on the noise was there while the a/c was on again.....suggestions? car has 45,000 original miles

It could be the AC belt/tensioner (not much $$$), the AC compressor (more likely, and way more $$$), or it could possibly be the fan (not likely, and less than half the $$$ of compressor).
Or it may have been an abberation, and not come back. Let's hope that is what it was.

mine did the same after romping on it with the a/c on. Compressor cant handle high rpm, supossed to cut off around 4 grand but 98's have a glithch and dont do so. Get a new compressor. your sending metal shavings into a/c system if u run it like that

Try adding some of the compressor oil charge to it. Quite my Toyota down, it just need some 134 and a can of oil charge and it was food again.
