1977 TA 4spd 400 t-top???
Hey i know a guy that has a 1977 trans am black with a 400 and muncie 4speed that is supposed to be original. It has t-tops and the interior has been all redone. I know shit about these years of cars so i dont know if this is rare or worth much. He wants to trade me this car and a $1000 for my LS1 t56 combo i have. This car needs lots of body work. Is this a good deal? and does anyone know anything about this year?????

Primer- 1977 Trans Am Y82
I know for sure that the '77's didn't have muncies. They had Borg Warner ST-10's so it's not all original. I don't imagine that '77 and $1000 would be a good trade for your car especially if it needs a lot of body work.

ok. He said it was a muncie m-22 but i havent seen much of the car. the body is rough and the interior is rough as well too. He said that he thinks they only made 360 like his with the 400 4speed hurst package shaker hood and t-tops in 77. I dont think i would fix it up i was just wondering if i could make something off of it from resale. if you have any websites with info on these cars that woud be great. thanks

Black- 2001 Trans Am WS6
Can you provide a VIN code, ITs easy to change front ends on those 2nd gens and pass them off as something else, 77 if it had T-tops should be the Hurst Hatch roofs which are smaller than the plentiful Fisher T-tops that are a the larger ones. Also 77 should have a honey comb designed front grilles, not diamond shaped like the 78's. If it is not a Black/Gold SE , Than I dont think it is worthit IMO.

Some good websites to ask on:
http://www.classicalpontiac.com
http://forums.performanceyears.com/forums/
There are some pretty knowledgeable second gen people there (I am sure there are some here as well).
As one who has owned several second gens, I'd agree with the above statements, that it does not appear to be a good deal. Even if it is a rare 77, I do not see you getting a good return on the car.
If you want to see how rare the car is, get the VIN, and pay $35 to Pontiac Historical Services (http://www.phs-online.com/). They will give you a comprehensive package of information about the car. You can even have some of it faxed so you can get it quick.
