1976 Pontiac Trans Am - My Pontiac And Me

High-Speed Hand-Me-DownMy brother Vincent ordered this '76 Trans Am 455 four-speed on May 8, 1976, and he picked it up on July 27. (From what I've been told, there was a delay at the factory due to a tire manufacturer's strike.) The day of its delivery, he spotted a tractor-trailer with new Pontiacs driving through our hometown of Bayshore, New York, and knew that it was most likely headed toward our local dealer. On the transporter was a Sterling Silver Trans Am, and my brother stopped what he was doing and drove to the dealer to see if it was his special-order T/A.inline_mediumwraptextright31862391/features/hppp_1004_1976_pontiac_trans_amhppp_1004_02_z+1976 _pontiac_trans_am+right_view.jpgTrue

Such a nice story. Cars always seem to be more than just "cars" and i'm sure most people can relate to stories like this, I know I can. Thanks for posting.

Stories about '76 T/As always catch my attention, but this.......... is JUST LIKE MY OLD '76!!

Well, mine had a non-working A/C and the Rally-II wheels, but it was silver and originally came w/ the red/charcoal bird/decals (the previous owner had repainted the car and put blue/charcoal decals on it...... but I could tell by the pinstripes around the side mirrors that didn't get properly covered the original color was red). Even had the same Hurst T-handle shifter. LOVE IT!

Yeah, those were the days for sure.. I miss my '77 'Bandit'. One of my friends had a white '76 and it was a beautiful car. But in '78 my best friend got a new platinum WS6 with t-tops.. I was a Camaro fan and had one at the time, but one drive of that car and I was a Trans Am lover forever..
