    02 WS6 build questions

i recently purchased a 2002 ws6 an im looking at throwing some more power under the hood. i am looking at getting a new MAF, Throttle body, intake, cam n valve springs, injectors, ported oil pump and headers. I also want ot put in a stall and 3.73 gears. is there anything else that i might need to pay attention to or replace while doing all this?

You should consider some head work, or complete replacements. Otherwise you are going to stuff and suck all the extra air through valve ports that weren't designed for it. Good heads will easily add and extra 30 horse to what the cam adds.

That is basic for any head rebuild, unless they were talking about porting to match the gasket. To do that, you mark the head ports with a metal dye, then scribe the inside of the gasket. You then use a dremel to grind out the material back to the scribe mark. You will still be left with heads that won't flow as well as aftermarket. It might be fine for your build, but you may just want to pick up some LS6 heads used, and get a quick port and polish done.

here is the break down of parts i am looking at

    92mm FAST intake
92mm FAST big mouth throttle body
Texas Speed Magic Stick 3 cam
    FAST 36lb injectors
MAC exhaust headers y pipe n cat back with performance cat
    K&N air filter kit
    richmond gear 3.73s
    B&M transpak

    undecided
    oil pump? stock or ported?
other fuel system uprades? needed or not?
ingnition upgrades? have msd 8.5mm wires and ngk tr55 plugs
    92mm MAF? any good brands?

    MR. Kid,
looked into some ls6 heads and texas speed has a pair ported that i can have set up with springs for my cam. How much work goes into mating ls6 heads to an ls1? are they just bolt on or do things need to be taken into effect?

dont worry so much about the MAF, in my exp. stock is most reliable

same for ignition, seen some crazy builds with stock packs

    other than that sweet build

The oil pump upgrade is a good idea. I may try to port my own. You can also change the spring out to increase pressure.

Upgraded Fuel pumps are also a good idea, but imho, not needed. Check your pressure during tuning, and that will let you know if an upgrade is in order.

LS6 heads are direct bolt on. Those are the heads I'll be adding.

I saw a good write up on spark plug wires somewhere, but can't remember if it was on here or not.

MAf is a good idea to upgrade with the intake. You want the whole intake the same diameter to provide good flow.

Good luck with the build! Post up some pics. See if you can beat me to the dyno

the car has 73000 on it so i will prolly get a new oil pump. I also want to freshen up the rings and bearings in the bottom end and re hone the cylinders. Im having trouble finding a 92mm MAF. 85 and 100s are everywhere. ill be ordering parts tues and starting work as soon as they get in so i will def be posting pics soon. THE RACE IS ON!

85 is a good upgrade. Every bit helps. Definately a good idea to do a hone, re-ring and bearings. I', hoping my cylinders are good shape so I can just go for a rehone and call it a day. You can see if you're winning by checking here:

I looked into the trick flow packages while i was looking at cams. Have my heart set on

texas speed's magic stick 3. Nice rough idle and the powerband i want. As far as the

heads goes i was going to stick with just some mild head work but now im going to go

with texas speed's ls6 ported heads with PRC double springs. Thanks for the suggestion

    though,

Weeeeellllllll, mine is on hold cause I just about broke my finger the other day removing a ground bolt from the back of the head. Smashed it between the air ratchet and the block.
I'll be back at it soon though!

In lieu of waiting for the shop to reschedule my machining ive been repondering my

intake options. I want to be able to ultilize the whole grille and ram air hood to allow

optimal airflow to a sealed box(when hood is colsed) that contains my air filter. I will be

equipping a 100mm MAF. I have been having some trouble finding an aftermarket

design that fits my application. Does anyone know if ther is one or is this something im

going to have to custom make?

I believe the only option you have that comes close to that, is the under car ram air kits that are available. The problem with the grill, is it's only cosmetice for the most part. Your bumper support is behind it, and will block most plumbing in that area. Aftermarket turbo kits usually require you to cut the center of the support and remove it.

I'm running the stock unit for now, but I will upgrading to a 90 with the new build. The Volant is a great unit, but gets dirty very fast. I live in CT where the roads are sandy year round, so I find that I need to at least bang the filters out ever 1000 miles or so.
